He’s 16 and out skates me daily, so don’t feel too bad

Did you ever end up top mounting or try out the freeboard bindings?

I drop-mounted in the beginning, too much wheel bite but very comfortable. It’s top-mounted now, much less wheel bite, but still pretty scary at speed.
