Thats so cool! I want to be like Randy when i grow up
. This summer is dedicated to teaching my oldest to ride a bike but esk8 and OW is on the bucket list as well.
I made those wheels a while back. Those go from about a 10lb round bar to about 1lb per wheel haha.
Pricey tires!
Yeah very pricey. PMT are known to be the best scooter tires. They’re the best street tires I’ve tried. Makes for some fun carving with the insane grip even over uneven surfaces, very confidence inspiring.
I’m so stoked that the days are finally getting longer and warmer. The weather has been incredible in the PNW, so our family has been making the most of our opportunity to get outside. In case anyone is wondering, milkshakes and onewheels make for a super fun combination.
Last night my son decided that he wanted a turn going for a ride, so we geared up and hit the streets. He has been riding a sit-down-electric-luge board for 6 years now, but he’s finally gotten too tall to sit on a board. We built him his first stand up board a few summers ago. He’s been reluctant to try standing up, but he’s making good progress. It’s been fun seeing him grow in confidence.
My daughter asked to dust off her deathscooter, so we definitely had to make that happen. I took her to my old college campus which is about 45 minutes away from where we live. There are extensive bike paths all around the campus, so there was a lot of exploring to be done.
It was really fun to cruise around campus and tell stories about the stupid crap I used to do as a student. Such a good time. The challenge with talking and riding is that we constantly had to come to a complete stop just so we could hear each other. After brainstorming several different solutions to make it easier to talk and ride, my daughter came up with this idea.
Can’t wait to try it out on our next ride!
Yes!!!
Time for a onewheel update! A few months ago I made the mistake of letting my daughter ride the XRV. Ever since then she has been eternally dissatisfied with her Plus. I can’t say that I blame her, but was pretty surprised that my 14 year old with one season of riding could make such a distinct difference between our boards.
I went back and forth on what to do… and yet somehow landed on the conclusion to do another DIY. Shocking… right? Thanks @rafaelinmissouri for sending me down the VESC OW rabbit hole.
Here are the specs:
- FloatBoxx Front Enclosure / Stock XR Rear Enclosure
- Lil Focer 3.1
- IndySpeed 20s2p P28A w/ ZBMS V3
- Float Life 5" MTE Hub w/ a 300 mile FM Hypercore Stator
- Float Life XR Varials, Cold Blocks, Bang Bumpers & Pioneer Tire
- 3D Printed Fenders
The build was a bit cumbersome, maybe because that’s just because I’m still getting used to how these things go together. OW builds are significantly more simple from a mechanical point of view, it’s the VESC programming and tuning that’s a real bitch. Huge shoutout to Mario @TheBoardGarage for making a wealth of free online resources. I have come to appreciate this man’s content and style. True internet gold! Alrighty… onto some pictures:
Inside the enclosures:
Some new shiney bits:
Rails test fitted:
Stator time!

And finally done!
So clean…
I want one just like this…
