how would you say it stacks up to your podium?
Steelbird vs podium
(Considering they are similar price range)
I got a 661 Reset MIPS.
I like it a lot. It fits comfortably and has some decent airflow. It was also one of the only helmets that had a size large enough for my big ass 62.5 cm head. I got the XXL.
Edit: I guess they’re on sale right now too!
No contest, podium a million times over. I just wanted to try a poor mans tsg for the visor action. It’s far too thin for anything serious. I consider it a half shell with a visor pretty much.
I use my “old” motorcycle helmet. Its relatively heavy (1209 gr) and the field of view is limited, but it feels very sturdy. Ventilation is ok, but it gets hot in the summer (it heats up when the sun is shining).
My skate helmet broke when i crashed at around 30km/h, so no more skate helmets for me!
(Its the one on the left)
Nice Airoh BTW!
IT’S FUKKING BLACK of course it gets hot in the summer
I know, just wanted to mention it
I’m about a guilty as you… 99% of my helmets are black…
That wasn’t me, this was me 7 months ago though, with a POC Crane MIPS half shell going around 30km/h with bindings on the street. Three hematomas and a concussion later, still don’t remember the fall or anything until an hour later.
For all you oil slick freaks out there. Fox Rampage Pro Carbon Helmet in “Weld” colour.
Just ordered the black Bell Full-9 Fusion Fasthouse (the GF MIPS version). Can’t wait!
You pulled the trigger on the Fusion eh? Very nice!
I asked TSG about the ASTM F1952 rating and this was their response:
"First of all thank you for choosing TSG, we appreciate it!
Yes, the Pass Pro Carbon is a certified (both EN 1078 and ASTM F1952) DH helmet.
I attach its test report based on CE EN 1078 (European safety norms).
There is no such document as ASTM F1952 certificate. If a helmet according to its test report fulfills ASTM F1952 norms, it is automatically considered ASTM F1952 certified."
So it does have the 1952 rating. I will ride this season out with the Pass and grab the POC Coron Air Spin as soon as the new lineup is available.
Yeah, the Full-9 is a 2013 release, and MIPS came to biking in the meantime. The Fusion is a 2019 re-design that makes the Full-9 safer and lighter.
Excerpt: “However, ASTM F1952 tests the front of full face helmets (the chin bar) for impact resistance to ensure that the rider’s face is also protected upon a harsh fall.”
So did they test the Pass for ASTM F1952 or not? Because it includes chin bar testing.
According to the quoted text they did.
Spend a few bucks on some anti-fog paste (cat crap or other similar brands) - apply liberally to the interior of the visor. Did that to my T8 Racer the first day I got it and have never had to worry about fogging. Takes five minutes, and you only have to reapply maybe once every couple months depending on how much you wipe down your visor.
Found out today there’s a helmet that has all the things I mentioned before, with all else the same except 400g more weight.
The Bell Moto-9 has Eject compatibility, MERS, MIPS, plus DOT and Snell M2015 certs.
“Luckily” out of my price range, otherwise I might have had some major FOMO right now.
I’m going to guess it’s substantially bigger as well though, which isn’t what I’m after.
I want to revive this thread because i don’t know what to buy either.
I have 200 euro but would like spend less simply because i don’t have any other protection atm and need to get some other stuff too.
Choices i had in mind was a tsg pass for 130euro, it’s discounted because there is only 3 left and all in size small, free returns if it doesn’t fit anyway so i prefer to gamble on it.
The other solution is bell super dh for 230 euro. over budget, and not sure if it’s ‘‘necessary’’.
i have a mtb geared for a max speed of 55km/h.
I’m leaning towards the tag, especially at that price.
the other option is bell 3r, but as mentioned, no DH certification. Would any of you gamble falling with a 3r at 55km/h?
