The helmet thread

Thank you

EDIT: @RyEnd do you also happen to know where I can buy lenses for this helmet? TIA

if only they had my size

I feel like a bobble head wearing motorcycle helmets. Being able to turn my head quickly is a big part of my ride style, so weight is a major consideration for me.

I got used to my 1.5kg helmet in like a month.
And that was my first helmet ever for anything so the small difference in weight from helmet to helmet isn’t an issue for most people imo

I’ve got one of these, brand new, worn once.

Hey all, Im low on budget, but would like to get a really nice helmet to prevent skinning my face/head on the pavement. Issue is that im involved with esk8ing, snowboarding, and mountain biking, and would prefer to only buy 1-2 helmets. I was already considering the tsg pass for esk8 and a half-dome for light riding. Do any of yall think the tsg pass would work for snowboarding as well, or would that not work. And I realize they are technically different impact ratings, but I feel tarmac is harder than anything I would hit snowboarding.

Thanks!

Anyone know of some budget motorcycle helmets for round heads? In the $100 range ±30

I got an airoh valor for a little over 100$, it looks good visibility is also quite good, if you have had some fancy helmets it can feel like to be on the heavier side but if it’s your first helmet experience you will get used to it quickly.

Anyone wear a tsg pass XL with a 60.5 cm dome?
I’m torn between the pass and the new orders avatar 2.
This seems like a decent deal for XL w/silver and clear visor. $275 shipped

Wondering if you fine folks have some input here. I want a helmet that’s tested for ~40km/h (my “average” speed is at worst 30-35, if I’m in the city centre it’s closer to like 25), weight isn’t a huge concern but physical size is. I know the two are very close but like a dense reinforced bicycle style helmet could be heavy and that’s fine but I do not want full face. What this is leading me to are helmets designed for ebikes, and maybe light motorbike/scooters.

NTA 8776, the Dutch ebike helmet spec, seems a good starting point, alongside ECE 22.05 for the motorbike/moped side.

On the NTA side we’ve got:

And for moped ones this is definitely as big as I’d go (and I’m worried about heat and ventilation)

So, has anyone used these style of helmets and got feedback? Do you get too hot in moped helmets, are they backpackable in a pinch, should I be looking for something else entirely, did Rekd kidnap your dog?

Didn’t entirely read but check the Fox Dropframe

I see a lot of people downing MC helmets, for me full face is the only way, lots of crashes in my 48 years, 80% is face first, I guess lead with something you can’t fuck up any worse?

I wear a very light carbon (the new tinfoil hat) MC helmet, the size is bigger but weight is close to my TSG pass. I’ve had far too many concussions in my time (10? Explaining a lot about me) I get not liking the larger dimensions, but a Snell rated helmet is so much more bubble wrap for my dome.

I have a crashed esk8 full face I’ll give away, you can paint it,I’m sure it’s compromised, but better than a shitty open face helmet (hell I’m wrong several times an hour)I’m told no one will take it even free repeatedly by members here who mean well , but I still THINK it’s better than an open face . I have a Shoei from 1000 that was my passenger helmet. If you are in the SF Bay Area and can’t afford a FF helmet, you can have either free. Don’t come get them if you are flush with cash, not cool! I want to see everyone have one that wants one.

Thanks man, unfortunately I’m the wrong side of the Atlantic for the offer. I tend to ride pretty slow (my 40km/h max is <25mph) and use my skate mostly for utility stuff where being able to throw the helmet in my bag and go to a lecture is important. That and I learned to roll when bailing on an estate so it’s always my left arm, shoulder, and elbow that take my fall. So far I’m avoiding full face

I use the Closca foldable helmet when I’m going slow; love that it’s super compact when I throw it in my bag:

My esk8 peeps i’m looking for a full face helmet
I love the TSG pass but I don’t like the price what are the options out there?
XL size
Full face
Light
Affordable
Looks cool :sunglasses:

The triple 8 is half the price but it’s not as good.
Buy the pass or the predator you won’t regret it.

What grounds do you have for saying this, or do you just not like it

The t8 racer is great for me, solid helmet.

The reasons I went with the pass over the t8 is the previously mentioned fogging issues some have and lack of replacement padding.

For me that was not worth $150, but it’ll depend on the buyer.

While I’m on the topic of helmets what’s good for very hot weather 100F/38C?

Is a pass viable for that or will I need a half helmet?

Demon podium is the only full face I have owned that I didn’t sweat in during summer.

Unless I’m at the bike park.
