The Cuban build

Started with a chunk of Cuban Mahogany

Re-sawed 3 layers from it, laminated it with 2 layers of fiberglass and epoxy to create a basic longboard shape:

Wanted more width and turned up edges so added some angled pieces, also moved the trucks out to the ends for a longer wheelbase:

Changed it to a drop through setup:

The front and rear have rubber pads which extend a bit beyond the board to act as bumpers as well as gaskets between the trucks and board.

Currently experimenting with different wheels as a manual board, my goal is to create a “Parsec” like experience with easy pushing and a lightweight short distance board. I also want it to be “stealth” and look like a manual board to the casual observer so I’ll be using hub motors. Open to suggestions for a good hub motor and ESC that can push 120 Clouds or similar, I may start with 105’s to see if I can live with them. I want a low profile battery so likely a 1P 18650 single layer high C rate cell. Also need a low profile ESC. I’ll carve a pocket into the bottom of the board and make a wood cover to match the board.

I’m currently running my Shark Thin board, (Teamgee based Lingyi), with a 10S1P Molicel P42a 2170 setup for reference and that performance is acceptable though not ideal. I’m thinking a 12S1P 18650 pack might work for this board.

Looking for suggestions for a good hub motor and ESC, preferably that can run 14S, 12S might work, needs to be compatible with Cloudwheels. ESC should be low profile so I can keep the stealth board look.

Trying something…

110mm scooter wheels, love the low rolling resistance and lighter weight.
