The battery builders club

Oh yeah im not doubting the design, im more curious about they overcome the issues we face when using fuses in parallel. I’m sure the sand plays a role

There’s a battery thermal runaway seminar being held on June 29th. Gamma Technologies sells the simulation software I’m sure they’ll be demo’ing but NASA has done some great workshops and papers on runaway and their participation will probably make this interesting. It’s free too.

If you can’t attend on that day sign up anyway. They’ll send you an On Demand link after the event so you can watch whenever you want.

SAE can send up to several emails a day once they get your email address so be sure to opt out of any you are not interested in (via the link they provide) or use a throwaway address.

It always seems like a good idea to build two batteries at once, but everything takes fuckin twice as long :unamused:

i need to calibrate my welder but fogstar are out of practise cells. best option?

also what happens if the 2 electrodes touch during a weld? and does it matter if your hand touches the electrodes when you weld?

I’ll post you a few if you want, you can also use old D batteries or even AA, IIRC the terminal material is close enough or the same.

You can kill the welder but its more likely to make a big spark and char the electrodes. But don’t do it

In theory no, but I wouldn’t really want to test it. At the very least they get pretty hot so you wouldn’t want to. The voltage of the pulse is nowhere near enough to go through your body, it can only really go through metal.

ah ok

just the kweld has a couple bolts sticking out the side of the electrode
just making sure it will be ok to touch those

also gotta be careful to make sure electrodes dont touch

Yeah I’ve probably held both of those set screws many times while welding, the voltage to too low to do anything. Just don’t touch it to your tongue…

And make sure your hands aren’t wet or sweaty

sweaty hand syndrome is a real thing…

US $2.19 7%OFF | 24W QC 3.0 Type-C Lithium Li-ion 18650 Battery Fast Quick Charging Charger Module Board DIY Power Bank

I used this for my powerbank, charges SUPER fast both my phone and itself, assuming you have a QC charger which you probably have from your phone

If it’s really late and you’re having a hard time focusing I recommend licking the bolts, should wake you right up

Bigger problem with sweaty hands is touching the battery itself, lick your fingers and touch the terminals of a 12s battery :joy:

However the electrodes are perfectly safe to touch even with wet fingers

I was curious one time if my tongue was conductive enough to start the auto weld… turns out it stings even when not sending the actual welding pulse… and yes the countdown buzzer started going off when it touched my tongue

I like this one better, the price is higher but it’s a very good option

Hi looking for a high current balance charger no bms or cheep bms will bypass it, are they all 3a max per cell?

This one’s pretty good from ali express, all protocols to QC4.0

A dangerous risk. I respect it.

another way to do this is to put an iPhone charger onto your tongue. its spicy :stuck_out_tongue: dont ask me how I know

the hobby grade ones with up to 6s or just a high current powersupply?

for hobby grade I’ve heard good things about the iSDT Q8 charger max 20A

Would like to balance charge
