I can confirm my BMS looks identical to the first picture in your post.

I would uploads pics but it seems I am not allowed(?)

In the manual provided with my BMS it says to connect P2 last pin to pack B+ no matter the configuration, which makes sense given the spec in the manual you linked says it’s what powers the protection board (is that just another word for the BMS or is there a difference?).

I had a chat with the ali store and they’ve agreed to send me a new BMS as they concluded I did in fact connect it correctly. I/they/we could be missing something of course.

I guess I could try hooking everything up except for the P2 and see if it powers up, and then connect that protection board pin with a fuse of some kind. Any tips on what I could use there?

if you do some of the discourse bot tasks or just spend some time logged in and browsing the site you’ll quickly get upgraded to “definitely not spam” status so you can post pics and links. Just keeps the bots down by making them invest human scale time into starting an account.

Ya, means the “bms” and not some part of the bms or anything in my experience.

Ive used a current limited power supply once but if you can try it on something current limited would be better. Not sure the best practice though - if they said thet your original wiring was correct id get them to bless it first and take a video

Not esk8 related, but I have 2 6S LiPo packs, the kind you put in drones or RC cars, and I will attach a BMS to each one.

I’d like to then tie the outputs directly together to both run the device and charge the packs. (so basically 6s2P but each with its own BMS)

It did occur to me that if the batteries are mis-matched (charge wise) then the higher charged battery will simply charge the lower one through the BMS, so I’m going for it. BMS’s arrive today. Or maybe the 6th.

if the batteries are mismatched and connected it’s going to be a quick balancing happening to them through the main leads not the bms, or maybe I’m misunderstanding

Oo using the discharge of the bms. If the cells are balanced or if the bms can handle the possible current rush..

Has anybody ever forgone the battery heat shrink wrap, and wrapped their battery pack with a 0.5mm or thicker silicone sheet?

I received some 1mm thick transparent silicone sheeting today. I going to use the silicone sheet for padding, instead of neoprene above and below, mainly for increased thermal transfer to enclosure bottom and walls, but then thought why not just wrap the battery like a present with the silicone rubber sheeting, sealed with a silicone adhesive?

is not silicone used as thermal insulator?

In my limited practical experience with it, i’ve found silicone to be reasonably good at conducting heat… way better than i expected it to be anyway





Silicone can be the best non electrically conductive thermal transfer material.

More as a thermally-resistant material than as a dedicated insulating material.

But as @glyphiks and @hummieee alluded to, it’s a heck of lot better at conducting heat than air. :slightly_smiling_face:
