How meny people running chain drive now? Just seems to make more sense… and is there a downfall to it? I just ride the city on my board strictly ashphalt

I run belts on my street boards and chain on my mountain board.

Chain does require more maintenance, and it’s a bit more finicky about tensioning, but overall I like it. You should plan on replacing the drive cog every year, they wear out; and keep it oiled.

On the street boards, which get a lot more mileage, I like the set and forget aspect of belts.

You can break motor axles on a chain drive with shock loads just like gear drives can loose teeth Which isn’t something belts face - I don’t think it is a high risk or anything but it does happen so is something to know about but not a reason to avoid it if that makes sense.

From just looking and asking others it seems like chains and sprockets wear out in the middle ground between belts and gears - gears lasting the longest and belts the least. Gears slipping the least and belts the most.

You should do it if you want to, they sound cool but are loud imho
