I’m putting together a belt drive on SR TKP and I ran into a small problem. Turns out that I have no choice but to position the motor mounts such that they block access to the grub screw on the hanger which helps to hold the axels / shoulder bolts in place. Having to move the motor mounts anytime I need to unmount a wheel seems extremely annoying. Plus, it’s not even possible with the crossbar installed. I would have to remove it.
Is it safe to just loctite the shoulder bolts and leave out the grub screw?
Dido as @ReliantChris but still agree loctite is a good idea. Most people don’t use the grub screws though in the esk8 scene. Just try not to take out your shoulder bolts often or ever cause it will butter up your threads horribly and you will have to replace them as well as the coil insert in the hangar which is a bitch and a half!
Thanks for asking this question. I have the same exact problem. I’ve been using the grub screws and removing my crossbars and loosening the mounts to remove a wheel. More annoyance than problem but who needs to be annoyed at removing a wheel?
I’ve actually considered removing the grub screws in my Sr rkp set, it seems the rust from the grub screw getting on the shoulder bolt causes issues, was on mine, sanded the rust off the shoulder bolts once removed and now go in and out like butter, I cleaned the axle hole as best I could too. I would also plug the grub screw hole to prevent water getting in.
It is, I have done this exact thing on every set of Surf Rodz I own. The grub screws will mar the axles which will in turn shred the helicoil thread inserts.
