Finally I’ve decided to do it, making my first build post. For some background info, this is my 3rd build and the most polished one at that. I’ve been building since mid 2018 at the age of 14, (admittedly very janky) and its been a really long journey, learning and improving with a (very) limited budget. I met @Linny sometime in 2019 he taught me the esk8 ways. Anyway, I’m really quite proud of this build.
The general idea for this board was to make the best handling, most powerful board within my means. (All my money is gone)
Its going to be a bit long dont mind me (because im documenting the mistakes too)
Specs
- Jet Killshot deck donated by @BillGordon
- Killshot enclosure by @BigBen
- My own 12s4p P42A battery build
- Madwheelz 125s
- BN M1 helical street dual drive 220 Hanger w adjustable baseplate
- Haggy 6374 190Kv
- FOCBOX Unity (Stormcore 60d upgrade on the way)
- Dumbo RC X6PM transmitter with P6F receiver (will go into this)
Battery Build
12S4P P42A
Anyway so here are the cells bonded (neutral cure sealant) and wrapped in fish paper, and ready for spot welding.
Used some braided wire for series connections and a smart BMS for balance, just very basic stuff.
Ok so finished product minus heatshrink and (fuse which i forgot and put in later)( I have no pics)
Drivetrain
BN M1 Helical Street + Madwheelz 125s
Nothing much to say other than @Linny gave me a set of old Haggy 6374s foc which saved me some money thankfully (They also have a really cool sounding resonance at high rpms). I used retaining compound for spur gear, and red tacky grease as lubricant.
The most annoying part was that when i ordered the drivetrain back in 2022, i opted for the Abec pulley, which was a STUPID idea and when i finally realised it, BN stopped making the kegel version.
At the time i was intending to use the abec 107s but when i heard the madwheels 125s were coming out i felt this build deserved better.
So i spent MONTHS looking for someone who was willing to sell me pair, after panicking that the build wouldn’t meet my expectations.
The 125s feel almost like pneumatics, but it has that predictability that urethane offers. I absolutely love them. They grip in corners like nothing I’ve experienced before with urethane, and, they absorb bumps like its nothing. I no longer fear the occasional rock or weird fruit/ nut that’s on the pavement.
Remote
Dumbo RC X6PM
Now this is my favourite part just because Im so satisfied with the results.
I had been using a mini remote for my other board since mid 2019. However in recent years, in Singapore where im based, ive noticed i get cut-outs of varying degrees of severity near traffic lights or in the vicinity of underground electricity lines.
I then decided to find a alternative to the mini remote, but the Zmote is too expensive for me, the GT2B has similar outdated tech as the mini remote and (I assume) will likely have the same issues. To my knowledge that’s about all the trigger remote options there are. But as it so happens that i also mess with RC stuff.
I actually own a larger version of the X6pm called the X-4E which has less channels but is essentially the same pcb.
I decided to just give it a go on my board, and it was absolutely phenomenal. It has really good trigger response and practically NO latency. In comparison to the mini remote, its just in a another league. Most importantly it has FHSS Modulation, which completely eliminated cut outs.
The form factor is really not that large in comparison to other controllers of its class, and it feels really good in the hand. (Also it costs less than 20usd) What more can I ask for?
There is quite a lot of dead space in the remote itself, so Im working with a friend of mine who is a fusion360 god (I’m just stupid and cant CAD), to make a 3d printable case to house the electronics.
ESC
This is where I fucked up real bad
Ok so Im using a flipsky advanced anti spark, which has an auto turn off after (i think) 10mins.
Yea I bricked it. I was updating my firmware and just as it reached 100% the anti spark said facku and turned off, corrupting my esc. For reference this focbox was a loaner till i got a stormcore and belongs to Linny. (I cannot afford to pay his ass back.) So i panic asked the forum and some really amazing guys came to help.
This was completely new territory for me and Linny so we would have been at a loss without the help. I flashed over the firmware using a workinf focbox single via the SWD port and it works fine now yay!?
Deck + Enclosure
I got the Killshot deck from @BillGordon through Linny and coated the top of the deck and the enclosure with bedliner. I think it looks pretty cool, but alas, the grip is quite bad, so i intend on placing a few strips of griptape on the edges of the deck.
Unfortunately, i don’t have any pics of the deck before i assembled it, so that pretty much concludes this build for now.
Now for the pics finished product that drained my bank account!!
