Smart BMS order

I don’t think capacity really matters too much if you don’t care about it telling you how much you have left besides voltage numbers

The Android version is very different when compared to the Apple one. If it works and connects, it’s the right one

Honestly… The only reason I bought a smart bms is to occasionally check each pack voltage and make sure all the numbers line up… So of that works then we good lol… Otherwise I got the metr

Do we have to calibrate the smart bms’?

mildly yes… mostly just basic inputs for charging… i noticed that all the low voltage cut off and stuff would be if you are using it for discharge as well, but since no “smart” person hahaah would those values dont really matter and can be left stock

a little yes, super easy.

i reduce the overvoltage figure a bit, it balances it down to 4.15v

nominal capacity is total AH, cycle capacity is 80% of nominal capacity.

change open + static balance.

can reduce balancing precision but do it at your own risk, i can get stuck in a balancing loop.

Thanks! So I want static balance and open, correct?

correct, means it’ll balance without the charger being on (i think)

You are correct. If you open the battery voltage page you can watch the cells being balanced while the charger is disconnected. On my phone a light green “B” pops up on the cell its balancing. Pretty cool stuff.

has anyone used a eswitch with these BMS?? I just hooked a momentary pushbutton but that doesn’t seem to work. Also the JBD tool from lithiumbatterypcb.com has ??? popping all over the place making it difficult to work with.

EDIT: Got it working.

Still ordering bms I could use one?

Where do we download an app that works with this bms?

For Android it’s side loaded.

For ios search for smart bms.

Will the 12s you have support my battery? I’ve made a 12s6p from Panasonic ncr18650bd and plan to operate each battery at 5 Amps per recommendations for folks on this forum. The BMS parameter I don’t understand is discharge current. My 6P pack should be 30 Amps, with 15 Amp per motor (dual motor set up). And your BMS is rated at 20 Amp discharge, but I don’t understand if that’s per actual battery or per each pack? So that’s the source of my confusion when the recommendation is to "buy a BMS rated for your battery… " Do I need a BMS rated for 5 Amps or 30 Amps - or something else? Thanks.

We tend to bypass the discharge function of the bms in most of our builds. This is because Vescs can handle discharge just fine. That bms is rated for 20 amps discharge, this means for the whole battery. So if your battery is going to give you 30 amps, you shouldn’t wire that vesc for discharge, but bypass that function. Any 12s li-ion bms will work for any 12s battery li-ion battery. So you are good to go ahead and use the 12s smart bms.
