Skate Tools everyday carry/essentials/what's in my bag/insert buzzword here

Because I don’t trust my own work (with decent reason) I almost always carry an Allen set, socket wrench, couple of sockets, and a crescent wrench whenever I’m out on the board. Partly because of silly decisions where I’d need two tools to undo a bolt through a nut, and also using different standard fasteners on everything.

Because it’s finally getting warm here and I’m not wearing big coats any more I don’t have the pocket space and want to just have a grab bag instead of raiding my toolbox. Have you found any good multitools, consolidated bag/set, or something similar for emergency roadside work? Is this a problem that’s just in my head?

(I tried the search, but if this is redundant or in the wrong category please let me know)

the best, most compact kits you can get are the ones you build yourself using only the tools you need for your board, meaning no complete sets of anything.

i used to carry a skate tool, three hex keys, 6 1" pieces of 9mm heat shrink, a small butane torch, electrical tape, and a razor all in what basically amounted to a black canvas makup bag that fit in my cargo pockets on my shorts. There isn’t much you can’t fix on a urethane build with that.

Yeah fair fair, the makeup bag is a good idea. I’ve actually been meaning to get better at sewing so some waxed canvas and a custom bag could be fun.

When you say butane torch do you mean something like this that’s like a big cigarette lighter or a bigger thing?

That but smaller, for cigarettes and blunts, yeah. The one i have isn’t much bigger than a Zippo.

Gonna need to buy a couple of duplicate tools so I can keep them in the bag near the door and not annoy myself by always missing them from my bench

One belt each of three different sizes (typically already-used belts just for emergencies), one 608 bearing, a skate tool, a tiny crescent wrench, tiny pliers, hemostats, and a lockpick.

And obviously the best tool of all: a cellular phone.

I like to do the same, and find that carrying it in my belly works brilliantly

Oh shit yeah I need to add this, I had extra belts alright but didn’t think of bearings

My city has a few nice straight bike lanes that are separated from the street or run in the opposite direction to a one way street. Had fun the other night riding down one drinking a beer and waving at the cops going the other direction who couldn’t get near me

two, likely to fail in a pair

The bearing has saved me exactly once.

I only carry one.

Always depends on where I’m going, but my usual bag is that Monark sling thingy.

Whats ALWAYS in there is an evolve skate tool and an allen key for my eboosted enclsoure.
When I’m not so sure about the charge status of my hoyt puck or my phone etc I carry an usb battery pack and the cables I need

I might carry a joint, or the ingredients for a joint with me.

I might also carry one or two bottles of beer in there, though that usually only when I ride with somebody else and we might take a break somewhere in nature

Ooh good call on the bearings, that is not something I’m currently carrying and feel like I should add that on

Easier to call the wife or Lyft to pick me up than to carry tools and spares with me. The problem comes when you are only a few blocks from home. Walk of shame time.
When I do want to carry things with my summer mesh (no pockets) jacket I use a belt with pockets. Yes, that is in fact the shadow of a dog tail next to my arm and camera shadow. Had to turn the flash off with the reflective strips.

When I tried to google it i just got a load of result for this hahahahaha

If you have a pic that’d be appreciated, I was thinking of a sling or light shoulder bag as well

It works surprisingly well, one just has to remember that our boards do weigh a tad bit more than usual and after having carried my 13kg/29lb board for 2.5m/4km the other day I have to say that my shoulder was quite sore

Ah perfect thanks! My board is relatively light (shortish deck, 10s2p, single 6355) but I can hold one truck and wheel it along by the other without scraping the tail so I just do that if I’m in a shop or crossing the road or whatever. Might look into one later but what’s the use case where you need to carry the board longish distances?

Don’t forget your condoms for when you move from 12s to 18s and all the girls that will be getting wet.
