April Updates

Broke my binding, probably accelerated the destruction because of the wrong installation. Luckily it broke in a parking lot while turning around and not on the streets. rode the board for the first time without a binding as a result, wasnā€™t that bad. It did however make it very obvious the leverage the binding gave me in turns as the boards currently setup for high speeds again.

Good news is I had already drilled different holes because I wanted to adjust the location of it prior to Vegas (but chose against it cause I kinda messed up the insert holes) so all I had to do was remove the silicone and bolt the ladders down.

i had more leverage toe side with the previous location but have better leverage heel side which is where I was hurting the most when racing so guess it worked out.

I want to lower my ride height after the success the Aussies have had so ordered a single stack enclosure from @tomiboi and a 3/4in thick gasket so I can get some ground clearance back and run the @IDEA baseplates. Should allow for a snug fit of my battery, bms and light controller which both sit on top.
While I wait for them to be delivered, decided to relocate my charge ports to the side so the motors can go under the deck which will help with ground clearance as Iā€™ve already scratched my motor cans a few times. Since the holes at the rear of the enclosure are no longer being used (thatā€™s what she said) for charge ports, imma throw my wires through them so theyā€™re not between the enclosure and deck allowing dust in.

boards back up again after fighting some more vesc gremlins.

Figured iā€™d post a little status update for the board since itā€™s been like two weeks.

Racing around a park I like to ride at and maybe 30minutes in, Iā€™m coming out of a turn and getting on the throttle. I notice that Iā€™m getting little to no power on the right side and immediately go to my car to check.

Fuckā€¦

I donā€™t feel like dealing with it at the park so home I go. No faults were thrown and when I swapped sides and tried to spin the motors up, I smelled smoke and immediately shut everything off. Opened up the motors to see if there was maybe something stuck in the can but everything appeared to be fine, just a lil dusty. So I got rid of the dust, put everything back together and ofc motor detection is acting all weird. It spins up normally for the detection but when you get to setting the motor direction, it would try to spin up and fail to do so. Sometimes it would just say that it couldnā€™t set motor parameters.

If I tried to just finish the motor detection after experiencing the above, (thinking maybe the motor detection was messed up but everything else was fine) I was left with thisā€¦

Thatā€™s enough for today, Iā€™ll work on it tomorrow.

Day two, messing with firmware and settings, I managed to find out that vesc doesnā€™t like ā€œcurrent no reverseā€ in ppm settings and Immediately spins up to probably 20% throttle? It was the reason my board ghosted into the wall in Vegas and fortunately this time, the drive wheels were off the ground.

After re uploading new firmware, the problem I was initially having somehow transferred him to the other side even though both sides were connected the same. Rerun motor detection and now everything seems to be working. Leaving that alone now itā€™s working.

Boards now setup for 40mph top speed and my trucks are a lot looser as iā€™ve gotten comfortable on them. Iā€™m no longer having to muscle the board into sharp turns. Also got some different shoes which helped a lot with that. Iā€™m still on the fence about a rear binding, need more time on the board.

Current upgrade plans

Bought these baseplates almost a year ago and Iā€™m finally gonna swap them in to lower the board. Unfortunately I have a double stack enclosure so I already donā€™t have much clearance so Iā€™m gonna have to do some gasket wizardry to get a single stack to fit my electronics. Wonā€™t win any beauty awards but everything I need is finally here.

Iā€™ll work on it sometime next month and hopefully it goes well. I have a spare gasket incase adjustments are needed. Probably gonna work on it next time this coming weekend.

Safe bet the standard baseplates will already go low enough to drag that box. I did the same thing with the gasket on that single stack.

Was still hitting at this height

iā€™ll definitely remove the half inch riser i have on there currently before i take apart the links then

Saw you talking about how youā€™d be posting a comparison of the srb 3 links and the newbee triple links around this thread and was wondering if you posted that anywhere. If not, thoughts?

Iā€™ll start this by saying this was the very first time Iā€™ve done racing on a track so it was a learning experience for me. With that being said, Stooge 3links are most definitely better if you want to best performance. After 2 months on each truck, Iā€™d choose the 3links every time. They donā€™t feel like iā€™m fighting the board to get more turn and they are more stable which gives me more confidence to run them looser and push harder than i would the newbees.

Stooge
Pros: itā€™s a proven system, very stable and maneuverable, adjustable ride height (lower the better), customer support from Moe and team, ability to run basically whatever wheels you want because the axles are long, krank bushing formula and support from Riptide, open straight cut go brrr, quality parts, fast shipping talking about US specifically), easy to get replacement parts or even custom parts
Cons: more expensive, have to take it apart almost completely to change bushings, if you want to run closed gear drives youā€™ll want to send them to Moe so he can make adapters and set them up on the trucks, they will ruin pretty much every other board that you ride because they perform so well,

Newbee
Pros: cheaper, ease of adapting gear drives, adjustable baseplate makes it easy to mount on mountain boards, they can come anodized, easier to change bushings, to some they look better??,
Cons: still in beta testing and isnā€™t a finished product, no adjustable ride height, shipping takes longer as itā€™s coming from china, harder to get replacement parts, in my experience when it breaks its catastrophic, (see my vegas post for more info on that), you have to drill out your own bushings, radius rods are poor quality and had lots of play in them after a couple rides, tolerances arenā€™t very good cause i had to sand down my axles to get the bearings to fit on my set and another set someone else purchased,

Recent Setup Changes:

removed half inch risers, gonna drop it lower after carve seattle.

dropped my angle in the rear to the lowest hole.
went to 84a bushings in the front and loosened up the front and back (i donā€™t understand how itā€™s still stable at 40mph but it is)

changed up the grip tape a little

current working on the new enclosure with the rubber strips so i can get some ground clearance back. all the connectors i need are done, just gotta square the edges of the rubber strips and glue them together. also need to make some holes for the xt60 panel mounts and then i should pretty much be done

Couple updates.

ā€¢New top box courtesy of @Tasventouras. Itā€™s a perfect fit in there for all my wires.
ā€¢Broke two hd brackets for my 3links so now i have some double thick hd brackets that hopefully shouldnā€™t give.
ā€¢Also tried some long rods on the rear but i need to drill new truck holes if i want to use them. The wheels are too close to the edge of the deck in a turn.
Board was performing beautifully until friday night at Carve Seattle. Blew a solo but fortunately @poastoast was bringing a new one for me to do an awd swap which unfortunately didnā€™t happen and i blew that solo the very next day. Artem is gonna take a look at em sometime tomorrow and see if itā€™s the motors that blew them which best explanation at the moment.
Even with the solos blowing, I had a fantastic time at CarveSEA and canā€™t wait till next year.
Itā€™s too hot to go riding over here (90-100Ā°F) so iā€™m not desperate to get the board back up. I will hopefully be racing at electrify expo in san fran so iā€™ll have to get it back up sometime early august the latest.

these things are tiny! -she
anyways got the megan mounted to the top plate

d100sā€™ are mounted in the enclosures
gotta change out the bullet connectors on my motors, cut the crossbar for my front trucks to length, open the enclosure to run a battery lead and can cable to the front esc, adjust my binding slightly, mount motors & pinions, and lastly run detection.

Are you on t-race? If not you need to be. Thatā€™s the ideal board right there.

iā€™m waiting for my racebox micro to ship out and then iā€™ll have a go at t-race, 0-20 times, and probably the chicago northerly circuit while iā€™m at it. iā€™m hoping that it gets here before summer is over

AWD swap has finally been completed.
I took the board to Seattle SNR this past weekend and it performed flawlessly. Carving is still very fun and it feels more stable in the turns. Currently sitting between 40-55wh/mi on the Linns so itā€™s a good thing i have such a big battery.

Iā€™ll test out the brpā€™s sometime this week. just gotta get the back right one to seat properly and stop wobbling, then weā€™ll be ready to test.

Drove down to SF for Electrify Expo last weekend and the board performed great. It was really nice seeing how far iā€™ve improved since esk8con.

somehow managed to qualify 5th but ended up crashing out twice in the finals. didnā€™t get to race on sunday but i had a ton of fun on saturday.

I was having an issue launching which i found out today was because the mounting bolts were loose on my front truck. tightened them down and managed to beat my previous 0-20 time with the battery sitting at 3.7v /cell so who knows how itā€™ll perform on a full charge

Iā€™m hoping to make it to at least one more race before winter but if not, Iā€™ll be aiming for pro class for next esk8con.

just noticed the tab number, noice

getting a weird overheating issue with one of my motors. sounds like something is rubbing ever so slightly, gonna hit it with a compressor tomorrow and probably open it up as well. hopefully, itā€™s something easy to fix. also gonna re-run motor detection with some new parameters see if that improves anything

planning on swapping out the 3links for duality trucks, just waiting for the 10mm axle versions to be ready and then i gotta order motor mounts from idea. not sure if iā€™ll be running them for the november race, just depends on how quick i can get comfortable on em.

also gotta validate a quick release setup for my top boxes to make it easier to ship the board and change out bushings on the duality trucks. i have all the parts, just gotta see if itā€™s actually feasible and if it is, execute

wellā€¦ just found out why i was having issues with temps. also found out what was rubbing.
on the bright side, itā€™s gonna be in the 90ā€™s all throughout monday so i wasnā€™t gonna be riding anyways.
