Oh ya… moon drives got mad free roll… Going from finality → moon… i have to pay attention that the board doesn’t decide to just wander off

Wow. Not the first person to indicate something similar.

@3DServisas what’s up with the lack of free roll from some of the finality builds? Is that to be expected? Is there something not being assembled correctly?

I am at work Justin. Will try and do so it when I get home but my esk8s haven’t seen any use in months so free roll might not be so free in my case

I edited my previous post so that flak is given to the one deserving it.

before we start bashing… I don’t see it as a bad thing. Finality drives have a much snugger fit. The ride is significantly more refine and smoother compared to moon. Also Finality is helical vs My moon drive is straight cut. Helicals then to have more drag to begin with.

But we are talking about a skateboard here.

They’re supposed to roll for fucks sake.

I beg to differ, my board is a vehicle for commutes

The choice of wheel bearings. I have a flux out there with finality drive, so i’ve had the pleasure of assembling them and the issue is 100% the bearings. they’re probably great for cars, trucks, and trailers, but they have shit free roll on a board. and no amount of “breaking them in” is going to help.

edit: and yes, also the helical gears don’t help. straight cuts are king for free roll.

I just spent an hour looking for a board in my house to do this with. I have no fucking idea where they are.

It’s not bashing- IMO freeroll has a massive impact on how a board performs/responds. I absolutely see it as a bad thing- what’s the expected advantage to using these expensive radial cone bearings? Lower maintenance/consumables cost in exchange for reduced wh/km & less freeroll?

The reason people like thane is because of the freeroll/reduced roll friction. Pneumatics reduce it to an extent. Your bearings shouldn’t introduce this much friction unless something is wrong.

Bingo.

The drivetrain drag is definitely apperant while riding. I basically use it as brakes. Complete opposite of dd’s.
