Should you join a chain gang?

I open up my engine oil filter every oil change, to see what the filter can’s external magnets caught, and what is in the filter pleats.

One time, after replacing only my double roller timing chain with a high quality Cloyes brand, the next oil change, I noticed the magnets and filter pleats caught a lot more larger ferrous debris.

I asked on an automotive forum if this is common, and a few responses were like did you soak the timing chain in thick motor oil overnight before installation?

I had not.

I only applied assembly lube to it with gloved fingers after it was installed.

Its a mopar LA 318 hydraulic roller cam engine and has 75k more miles on it since the timing chain, and all subsequent oil filter dissections were normal.

But it bothers me I didn’t think to purge all the air from inside the rollers before installing the chain. it likely took a long time for motor oil to make its way inside of it and lube it properly

Exercising some OCD, I think on a bike or esk8 chaIn today, I’d get some Lucas Transmission fix additive, which is way thicker and tackier than 85w-140 gear oil, and have a way to heat the tray, and apply a vaccuum pump and purge the air from within the chain.
