Reversed polarity on my vesc, whats my fix?

welp, in a moment of stupidity making an xt90 to xt60 converter I fucked up and got the ends wrong. Went to plug the battery to the vesc and poof black smoke. I know Im not the first to do this so what are the solutions for this?

What actually gets fried on the vesc when this happens?

Its a unity…Just when yur thinking things hopefully cant get much worse than they already are =/

thanks

NYC based? Maybe @Scepterr can help, otherwise, @JohnnyMeduse is your man

All the electrolytic caps are dead.

At least one MOSFET is dead.

The DRV is dead.

Those are the guarateed dead components.

Many other components also could’ve failed but there’s no telling exactly which ones.

Since it’s a unity, the built-in antispark is mostly also dead.

Yeah it’s gonna be pricey, and there could easily be PCB damage

Isn’t there a reverse polarity protection diode on the unity? or did I just make that up

If there were there wouldn’t have been black smoke.

yup release of magic smoke is a very telling symptom of fukedupness

Never had a unity :man_shrugging: no idea, just remember seeing it on a PCB somewhere

let me expand on that statement more… black smoke came from the connection of the xt60s together… as soon as they touched i pulled it apart just as quickly… so both xt60s were melted some plastic and the metal connections…but no black smoke from the unity itself… no visible damage i can on the PCB.

but yeah, i made a fucking rookie mistake which is killing me now…

does this info change anything?

No, you shortcircuited the battery through the capacitors and the mosfets. All the capacitors are unusable and I’m guessing at least one MOSFET has failed shortircuit.

can i test these with a multimeter to see what is what? and if so how?

There’s no point. So many other components would have likely failed or otherwise become unreliable and unusable.
You would have to desolder the entire power stage just to find the bad MOSFET(s).

Happened to me aswell with a focbox, sent it to @seaborder but it was completely dead… RIP
