I’d like to get the raw material back from my trucks & motors so I was wondering what would be the safest way to achieve this.
Would it be sanding, acetone or anything else?
Also, would it need to be coated? I suppose my trucks are aluminium, and my DD bells are iron
Depends on what coating is on them, Dave.
Anodised or powder coated / painted? Think some caustic stuff can be used to remove anodising (oven cleaner / draino). Google?
Aluminium won’t red a coating, and forms and oxidation layer quickly without any coatings.
Powdercoated in fact, pain to get off. I brushed it off with a steel brush, be careful though it does move the aluminum aswell so i switched to sandblasting. Then a lot of friggin sanding and the polishing wheel.
I also looked to strip powdercoat chemically, and found somewhere that one paint stripper does get it off, let me look it up again. I did not do it bc im in the EU and all you diy gurus are 'merican.
They mention aircraft stripper (lmao @kook you must have a funny picture of this).
Yeah same I looked it up too. Some chemical that starts with B…
Can’t buy it in Europe… Well you can get 500L for 5000euros I saw but that’s it. Sand blasting is not a tool everyone has unfortunately. I tried oven cleaner on my trampa base plates with zero results
