Is there information out there on DIY solutions for a rear and top mounted box to house battery and VESC? I am kind of sick of the enclosures under the deck and figured why not just mount everything above the rear trucks just like what @Trampa did on their carvers. Seems like a practical solution - maybe doesn’t look as clean but who cares when you just want to have some fun on the board. Would make swapping batteries easier as well.
I would seriously consider putting everything on a box in the middle of your board between your legs. I’m guessing you thought of this already so I would love to hear your reason for avoiding it?
The real advantage with the box mounted this way is that it doesn’t sacrifice the flex of the deck camparing to a big Li-ion pack mounted below the deck inside a stiff enclosure bolted to the deck, making my hub motors more comfortable.
I like that box. Functionality. I have to admit that one of the reasons i prefer under slung enclosures is vanity. I just like the look and prioritize that over the convenience and simplicity of a center or rear mounted enclosure. I do also use all that real estate an unobstructed deck has vs a center mounted top box and a rear box kinda seems like a middle ground… though vanity jumps back in.
I just gotta be able to move around on my board, i spend a good third of my rides standing on the forward 2/3 of the deck and also have to t pose for dominance occasionally.
Side bonus is standing with both feet together on the front of the board and casually riding past peds and bikes when low speed passing on trails and sidewalks gets some seriously quizzical looks and big smiles. Something about how goofy i look doing that. Sometimes i pretend im a scooter and hold an invisible handlebar or carve like a downhill skier
I should get the full banana suit for carve but replace the middle with yellow booty shorts
You’re right! All my mountainboards have a top box in the middle and have enough flex.
My SuperSpine with enclosure bolted to the chassis still have enough little flex.
But my Hummie deck with fiberglass enclosure bolted to the deck has absolutely no flex at all. Vibrations directly go to my ankle through the hub motors. It’s very pretty but it hurts.
