Problems finding suitable drivetrain

I’m trying to build a board currently, and i’m wondering if there is any way to adapt the new stooge 78t gears that now don’t have the outer cutouts for mounting to the mad racing hubs, or if anyone knows of a good alternative to open gear that won’t slip under significant load

They used to have the MBS mounting pattern. I wonder why it was removed.

you have to drill your own mbs pattern holes with his new 78t spurs

You may be able to ask @MoeStooge if he’d be able to drill them at his shop prior to sending them to you

damn that stinks, maybe they’ll add it back by popular demand. If not maybe I’ll stock them.

He will, but charges for it…

I have mad hubs with linn power adapters and spurs. But I’m using the MBS pattern between the adapter and the spur.

I bet we could make a simple printed jig to bolt up to the new spur to drill out MBs holes.

I believe they went away when he had to find a new supplier. But not entirely sure.

I’ve been using mad hubs as well, but using a spacer system instead of the linn adapter and it worked surprisingly well and never moved. a jig would be a good idea for drilling holes into 78t, I was fortunate I had the 67t spur I just copied the holes into the 78t.

Have someone design a 78T spur file for you. Then have it cut by SendCutSend. I have a custom Mod 2 gear file made by @Dinnye and it was $80-90 total for 2 piece.

I can share dxf files for sendcutsend tomorrow, already have mod1.5 78T designed with MBS pattern

So that would be the reason he removed the option?

I mean having the pattern already on the spur gear saved you extra hassle on getting an adapter plate from Linnpower. But ig there’s a good reason why he removes the pattern on the new gears.

Send me your wheels and I can set them up.
We will charge for that.
(Spacers, carrier bearing, hardware, time.)

MBS hole pattern has been back in the 78t spur for some time now.

If you have an off pattern wheel.
Send me your wheel and we can set it up.

Be aware, laser cut is not machine cut.

Without the proper alloy and hardening process the spur will not have a long life.

Case hardening works well.

It allows use of a lower carbon steel.
The draw backs of case hardening is it’s’ more tricky process to get right. The part requires even application of the case hardening compound, heat, and tempering. The transfer of carbon from the compound to the steel in the heating process distorts the tooth and will require resurfacing after the initial heat and temper.
Machining a high carbon part is a much easier process that does not require resurface after tempering.
SRB uses high carbon hardened steel for this reason.

Case hardening is key as well :+1:

False statement. The 67t spurs had MBS holes stock. Your new 78t spurs the MBS pattern was removed. I just got your 78t spurs 2 months ago and they only had BRP compatibility stock.

Since the holes were removed, you must pay to have them drilled or do it yourself per my above comment. Bring back MBS compatibility!

I will add these spur gears are of great quality and my 67t spurs showed no signs of wear after a year of use!

@Goride65

Happy you’ve made this change, I stand corrected.

There’s your answer, you can get the 78t with MBS from Moe.
