Pocket Rocket | 27" Shark Wheel Fathom Mini Deck | 12s Lipo | Dual Tacon Bigfoot 160's | Esk8 Supply Dual Esc | Enertion Mounts and Pulley

My name is Bryce Taylor. I am 15 years old and I fell in love with this hobby about 3 years ago. This is my third electric skateboard build. It is actually a rebuild of my first board using the same deck. The old setup had a single sk3 6374 which was plenty powerful and I rode that almost daily for a year and a half with no issues. But it finally broke down and having the board apart on my desk prompted me to give it a rebuild and upgrade.

DRIVE-TRAIN
The most drastic change to the board is obviously the drive-train going from a single 6374 to dual 6364 motors. The ratio is 16 to 36 at 245 kv. The enclosure is an old Psychotiller split that cut down to fit on the short deck. I 3D printed some inserts for the enclosure to perfectly fit the USB and charging barrel jack on the board and some wedge risers to give the motor mounts some more clearance.I also wrapped the motors in some leftover D Brand Matrix Skin that I had for my laptop. The rear wheels had to be spaced out slightly to fit the motors.

ELECTRONICS
The Battery is 4 3s 5000mah cells arranged in series for 12s. I use a cheap eBay BMS for charging (yes I know these are notoriously unreliable but I have had no issues and cheap). I added a Buck Converter (dc to dc) for USB charging with a 50-volt input. It works extremely well and charges just as fast as a wall plug. The voltmeter is just a pretty generic one with green backlight but it works fine. The ESC has a built-in Power Button and includes a remote that is actually very solid feeling. A surprisingly premium feel and performance for a china part. My only gripe is that the controller has no UART ports for tracking rides and that you have to program each side separately. Overall pretty simple wiring and management job. (I promise it was a lot prettier before hot glue).

Part list:

  • TACON 160 245KV x2
  • Enertion Motor Mounts and 9mm Pulley kit (16 Motor:36 Wheel) x2
  • Psychotiller split enclosure x1
  • Caliber 10 inch 50 degree trucks x2
  • Esk8 Supply Dual ESC (VESC 6.1 based) x1
  • Shitty kids Skateboard Deck x1
  • 90mm flywheel clones x1
  • 3s 5000mah Lipo Packs x4
  • Ebay BMS x1

Let me know what you think! I don’t feel like adding up everything right now but I estimate I spent around 500 bucks all in. I plan on stripping the deck graphic and staining it but I don’t have access to power tools and stuff because Corona. I really like it so far!

Sick I’ll have to check it out

I started off on a single 245kv and 12S lipos, It is a fast combo and still good uphill if you are light-ish.

Nicer looking than mine for sure!

Ahhh the tacon 160… and zippy lipos lol the memories. So flipping cool you got 2 tacons to fit on a single hanger like that. Great job!

Also one recommendation, I once set an erpm limit cause I was worried about getting a drv error cause if you go over 60k or something on the old vescs it would damage the microcontroller apparently. Don’t do what I did cause the board when into a slide when i was going down a hill cause I hit the limit I set. Lucky it was a good fall.
TLDR rpm limits are bad idea

Yeah I lathed down some bearing spacers to push the wheels out just enough to fit both motors. Not possible with a wider belts tho :frowning:
