Pneumatic Wheel Compendium (Serious)

Anybody here using the 9" t2 or midlpluggers on road? Do they wear faster? Too fast to make it worth while?
My usecase is a 13 mile commute each way Soni want the largest tires possible for comfort and hazards. But 9" Roadies don’t seem to be a thing

tagging @Lee_Wright and @Andy87 , pretty sure both have tried these.

I think @rich did ride is 9“ T2 back tires off pretty fast in off-road conditions.
For the 9“ muddpluger @Lee_Wright can sure give some advice. I just have a set coming so can’t say now how long they will last compared to the mbs ones.

bro would not recommend the 9 inch mudplugger for road use they work best in slippy mud and the road i have found to nick chucks out of the tyre tread. i would recommend the the 9inch striker tyre. been rocking a second hand set for 2 years now and there pretty much zero wear in the tyre despite a few burn outs

Thanks! That actually makes a a ton of sense. Stryke looks more suited for my application!

What? Did you ride at all? :joy:
You make me want to test them :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The range of a tire can be veeery different due to riding style but no tire I had lasted longer than about 600km (except the stone tires from Aliexpress). My rear T2 tires are almost done after 1-2 months but I rode at least 500km maybe more.

Well hm so the Stryker looks perfect for my needs. $250 is total cost to my address though. That’s a tough one.
Shipping alone is $50.
Any USA based options? @Pickled_Monkey @Andy87

so you’re looking for a 2.5-4 or 2.8-4 scooter tire? non-us source i would check those us based electric scooter parts store

Never got what that meant

How do you read 2.5 - 4

What does it mean in terms of diameter and width?

@Halbj613 in this context, it is:
[tire section height] - [rim diameter]
sometimes it is listed as
[tire section height] / [tire width] - [rim diameter]

i found this us vendor, 45psi street tread http://www.electricscooterparts.com/tires.html#2.80-2.50-4
TIR-2.80-2.50-4-ST

@RyEnd and @Venom121212 have you ridden these tires?

there are cheaper hand truck tires on amazon (probably not a good idea for the speeds we ride at). there are also these innova’s for sale at https://www.wheeliegoodmobility.com/air-filled-tyres-for-mobility-scooter/new-280250-4-innova-grey-solid-tyre-tire-for-a-mobility-scooter.html

What hubs have a 4 inch diameter? So those tyres are 9.6 inch dia?

Like almost every hub we use for esk8 uses that 4" hub notation for tires. Maybe not bergs or six Shooters.

But yes supposedly 9-9.6" diameter

Wow immensely helpful everyone thank you!

@sesat
So 2.4-4 is 8.9" Diameter and 2.8-4 is 9.4" yea?
Ok great! So I can just check other sources! Wonderful thank you

Nah, second number is hub size.

Multiply the first number by 2 and add it to the second number.

2.4 - 4 tire is 2.4 + 4 + 2.4 = 8.8"

2.8 - 4 tire is 9.6"

I rode them about 20mile a week, and would press the front into a wall and hit the throttle.
Best part is i bought two second hand scrub boards with a set each for £60

Lol I got that. Just really bad at arithmetic apparently

would love to know if anyone tried these. 9 inch road tires would be awwwweesooomee

I’ve posted a similar tread pattern and was given a negative review. They’re wheelbarrow / wheelchair tires and not meant for high speed apparently.

I’d be lying if I said I still don’t consider trying them for science

Alright so is this a bad tire?
Looks like it’s not seating on the outer lip of the 5star.
2 of them have this issue real bad. Tried greasing the lip. Heating the tire, Even cutting out excess. Still no luck. You can tell it’s off by the bouncing around it does on the bench. Haven’t ridden it yet but maybe somebody has a trick. Maybe it’ll take a seat once I ride it. Might be 5star specific so maybe @Venom121212 yet again? Thanks bud.

It looks like what I had happen on a too big size tire. In my case the 8" tire was designed for a 4" hub with bigger side walls than the Superstars. It looked fine at first but had some wobble and did that overnight. a0c5c1580cfb08b748ff9cbd862a14717717e3ac_2_281x500
