I am almost done with this build and have so many photos and details to add so this will be updated with more information soon or soon ish. I’m skipping a lot of details right now purely to make sure I actually make this build post
I’m currently waiting two more days for the clear polyurethane finish to fully set so I can assemble everything again. Future me will make this into a more coherent thread but for right now I figured I’d finally make the thread to start with.
Here is how it started: a kind of complete purchased second hand on here for cheap knowing that I’d need/ want to do a lot of work on it to meet my needs/wants:
Purchased in December 2022 but then I ended up working too much and progress slowed down too much
Sale photos because past me is an idiot and didn’t take photos aside from photos of the top of the deck
This is the closest thing I have to a photo of the enclosure before I modified it to be more water tight:
As you can see, there was a large section completely cut out for the wires to run through that I had to rebuild with epoxy and fiber glass. I used mostly fiber glass tape for this bit due to having it on hand and not having woven sheets. As far as I can tell, both are more than strong enough for this purpose and the tape is slightly easier to work with IMO.
I will add more photos of the progress of building this side of the enclosure back up later but here is a finished photo of the epoxy work:
Bought a used surfadapter on here that just needed some new roller bearings and a new paint job:
I have more photos of the process that will also be added in later
The the new extension bracket arrived but they used a carbon fiber that had this ugly checkerboard pattern to it. The older ones looked better IMO so I decided to paint and fix it, after originally deciding just to sand it slightly and add an opaque black layer of epoxy to it.
Finished photo:
The epoxy I used did not want to self level so does have a slightly uneven surface to it but
If I have more photos of the process for this bit then I will add it, but i will at least explain the steps taken via an edit in the future.
Had to order a new battery so in the time waiting I decided I wanted to go ahead and paint the bottom of the deck now instead of doing it later:
The tineist and cutest little Morgana that will show through the hole in the extension bracket I use for the surfadapter
The other side
Since the deck is mainly covered by the enclosures, I decided not to paint the entire surface and instead used the bare wood in the design.
