Painting hubs and deck

Hey, friends!

I’m waiting for my funbox deck to come in the mail, and I’m going to paint it. Firstly looking for a DBZ vibe with stenciling, or I’m thinking a dark green base with a fat mandalorian mammoth. ESK8 is a complicated profession. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. I need personal experiences and pointers for painting this blank deck I’m going to receive soon, and also, I need experiences on painting wheel hubs (AT wheels are pure black from torqueboards). Have people used plastidip before? Guessing that wouldn’t survive terrain very well, but what do I know? Maybe it does? Anyway, thanks for the assistance!

when I first read this I thought you were going to paint a focbox lol

Nope, just looking for advice on painting a deck and wheels.

@Anubis do you plastidip?

Only the remotes, but I’d 10/10 recommend hydrodipping. Its much more reversible than I thought, It can be peeled away. I’ve not found anything to be super durable though.

Just regular clearcoat + spray cans for trucks and deck though imo

I used alumihyde, and bake cured them. They have survived some shit. Seen desert and crashes. No gravel or grass though.

Prep work is key. Plastidip will disappoint you.

I caught that error immediately, I appreciate the clarification. I knew it was something other than a mammoth that started with the letter M – the skull being the symbol for traditional rulers of mandalore and future generations of Mandalorians.

I’m doing more research into what the colors mean on their armor. Might tune it to my own life, really make this thing unique. Also…if you happen to know where I could get a stencil or if you find a source for one approx 6 inches+ in length, that would be so dope. I’m only finding ones around 4 inches or so. I prefer to spray-stencil the skull on the deck as opposed to a vinyl. I’ll do a vinyl on the battery enclosure.

I’ve heard people have had good luck dyeing wheels (talking urethane here I’m assuming) with rit dye but the original color does impact the final product as it’s not 100% opaque.
