Unfortunately I do not have a drill press (or correct bits and threaders). That’s part of what has made metric chain use in the USA more difficult. I suppose the solution to my problem would be to get those

Or ditch the metric chain idea and go with whatever is available in your neck of the woods. www.usarollerchain.com seems to have lots of stuff too. I imagine it’s much easier for you than it has been sourcing sprockets in NZ.
If it’s for a MTB usage, then the chain size isn’t as much of a critical issue. It’s only for street setups that you need to go as small as possible (like 25H chains) to still have enough teeth on the wheel sprocket within the available space for a decent gearing ratio. For instance, with 25H you can do 11:36 or 9:36 on 105mm wheels. With 06-B, you’d be pretty much limited to 24T on the wheel sprocket side.
