not enough axle length - mbs matrix 2 + rockstar hubs

Sorry it’s an old thread but where did you get the longer axles?

I could also make axles and if people were desperate I might be able to ship a set or 2. What is ideal? A couple mm longer shoulder + axle and M12x1.25 threads instead of imperial?

I’m also interestet in some axles.
A couple of mm longer would be nice.

The stock axles look like 9.8mm shoulder, 33mm axle + 12mm of threads. What is ideal?

Standard M12 is a pitch of 1.75, I’m planning on M12x1.25 since more turns holding on the wheel is nice. Pictured is standard M12 vs stock Matrix 2 nut. I could try make thinner nuts on the lathe as well.

Getting the axles out is quite tough I could have lasercut a few pullers for it a few days ago if I had thought of it.

The Matrix 3’s Extended Option is 70mm. I would be up for a set for the Matrix 2’s / even more so, if you could turn them down to 10mm ? I’ve abandoned all hope of MBS actually releasing the 70mm variant in that diameter - I’ll mail you all the specs to not clutter up this thread

I was looking to gauge interest and I see there is. I’m not sure when I can start making them but I would charge quite little.

I was supposed to have received my own lathe but haven’t yet, I can try make them on a cnc in late August. I’m fine hand machining parts for myself and I want to use some myself for a while in case there are problems.

So a bit longer, not hollow, a notch for the grub screw but no splines and M12x1.25 nuts included.

I harvested the longer axles from a set of trampa trucks. barely longer.

They were already cut in half and it made sense. Otherwise, it’s a diameter and thread you could source and cut yourself I bet.

@CarelessAquarist

On the esk8 skill tree, I put all my skill points into 3d printing, Lipo batteries, San Diego sun.

I’ve tried to hand cut threads into hardened shafting and I had a bad time…. Did this work out?

Thanks that actually makes loads of sense for getting the longer axles, no wonder I couldn’t find them online.

I haven’t made threads both that large and on such hard steel but I have some ideas and if I can’t I know a few machinists who I’m sure can help. Last I did was M10 on carbon steel.

There is also a difference in quality between what I am happy with for me and what I would give to
someone else which is more difficult.

I have messed up, one axle is stuck and not moving in or out. I have tried heat and lots of hammering, I worry the hydraulic press would burst the aluminium.

I also should have made them longer for the motors and hubs on the back but ig I can use the oil slick one on the back. I’m also desperate for another baseplate.

How much would people pay for a set of 2 or 4 axles and M12x1.25 nuts?
I am not making them myself and custom machined parts are unfortunately expensive the best I can get is a set of 4 axles for €80. I won’t charge more than it costs.

M2 are nice aesthetically it looks stockier and the axle shoulders are the same size as the end of the hanger.

I can’t be responsible for damage caused by them failing, which is unlikely on 4 pieces of 16mm stainless steel when the stock ones are hollow and there is a notch for the grub screw but I will refund them if one somehow breaks.

Anyone else interested in something like this?

Probably not more than 30€ per pair
Becaus a brand new hanger ist like 50€ from Mbs directly
