Archived: the OG noob question thread! 😀

There’s a bunch of guys here that know this stuff, but I’ll just call on a few:

@Lee_Wright
@Andy87
@rich

Any chance you guys can weigh in here? Thanks.

The loop key(s) on the monster box have xt90s connectors so you don’t need an anti spark.
Trampa has a few diagrams on their website showing various types of connections

Pictures showing what you currently have would help.

Have you considered going with LiIons? You can get a lot more range for the same weight/volume.

Where are you based?

Anyone know if I can use the vx2 pro v4 on v6 hardware? Can I make a converter plug? Or change the plug?

so i have a set of carvons v4
and i am having a slight issue with one motor

it makes a slight noise and has slight resistance when turning by hand
then at speed (15mph around)
it goes krrrrrrrr and acts weird

i have confirmed (pretty certain) that it is the stator of that motor
what is the best way to find out what it is and how can i fix

does anyone know what motors they used on the v4 and is it replacable
thank you very much

The Carvon V4 SpeedDrive comes in two flavors, Carvon V4 SD R and Carvon V4 SD XL.

Which flavor is it?

Also try the hand test

speed drive dont think xl
but how would i know?

thanks

will look at the hand test

so @b264 i tested the phases and all seem good

a-b was mild strong
b-c was mild strong
a-c was a little weaker but did still brake
a-b-c was very strong

also i noticed on the broken motor it seems that the magnetic field is slightly weaker and the can is easier to take on and off compared to the other side

what is the best way to go from here

i will upload a video of the sound soon

Just interested…

I have a 12S6P Pack with Samsung 30Q.
I have my VESC Set to max curent battery 65A and max motor 85A.
I run two Trampa VESC Six with BioBoards 6374 Motors.

What are your settings if you run a similar configuration ?
I am not sure if I am already maxxed out - I have loads of power and the board feels great… just need some comparison

Also I am still not 100% sure if the configured Current is now for Each VESC or if CAN Connected VESCs will use only one value ?

Here is the noise it makes on the bench
It becomes a much a louder weird noise when I actually ride

The little krrr you hear every so often in the video is amplified when riding

Thanks if anyone can help

Really want to fix this motor

Any suggestions on what I can do

Video with wheel on

vesc tool is each, unity combined. So you have 2x 65A battery.

Please someone help

Really wanna get these working

I have one old Street Wing motor which wasn’t running well. It was “blocking” in a small part of the rotation movement, when turning it by hand. Opened it, noticed shaft was loose, so tried to attach it again to the rotor. Put it back together and now it’s even worse, really need to force it when turning it by hand for more than half of the rotation. In the bottom of the stator, there are a few marks which seem to be the rotor magnets rubbing against it, since the magnets also have those marks.

The rotor is indeed a bit angled but I never thought it would have a huge impact. Should I try to mount the shaft again? Any tips?

Almost same setup, 12s6p VTC6, vesc 6, 6374 Maytech’s 220kv.
I run them with 100A motor and 55A battery each vesc. The difference between 80 and 100 motor amps is epic. But in summer I have to decrease motor amps to 80 or 70A otherwise the run too hot.

For each vesc so you have to change current settings on both.

How do you solder them
What pins need soldering down

Thanks

So after our conversation 2 days ago i just came back from another test ride and it seems i just didn’t fully commit the last time. Now i did, sagged about 7-8v and killed a belt on the way. The belt was done for anyway, he had some tears but held up for the last 250-300km or so.

Here is the log:

(obligatory @fessyfoo tag)

EDIT : i bumped the batt amps to 65 so with the 32.6 i maxed that out. Motors still had 25ish amps left until it would’ve hit the bumped value of 80Amps.

I always forget that its 50A batt per side so i effectively could pull 80Amls (10s4p 30q) but i wouldn’t know where or how

I habe to say that pulling through uphills wasn’t pleasant. I’m not used to give my vescs that much power/stress. It also was pretty jolty (caused by the 2 shunt design?)

As in you have like the large pin at the back
Then 2 pins going in and then like 5 pins which are flat

How you supposed to solder them all?
