Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

It will power them well from the standstill, but don’t expect much top speed performance.
I’d do a 12s4p p42a for around £350 to match the rest of the system. It’ll blow your socks off
Also: fuck flipsky

Are the metroboard 155mm wheel hubs 155mm in diameter (not counting the tire)?

Maybe I overlooked it, but I can’t find any specific measurement details on their site for the hubs.

Heck I’ll buy the 6374s and upgrade the battery later ! I love more pow ah baby

If you’re planning to stick with that same battery, you’ll be basically cutting the power to each motor in half. It will still work, but you paid for two 6374s, but you’re not getting two 6374’s worth of performance.

I’d recommend either going for 6355s instead (that’s a better match for the battery), or upgrading the battery to be able to feed dual '74s.

Looking to buy these wheels

Was wondering if this wheels require balancing?

@domas A Stormcore 100D is rated to do that at 20S

Any wheels will benefit from balancing, because none of them are perfect.

The real question is, what level of imbalance are you prepared to tolerate?

Hehe, good question… I guess we will see. Any experience of how unbalanced can this untrampa wheels can be?

Not sure why your response makes me think about this.

A smooth, quiet ride.

most of the out of balance comes from the tires rather than the hub. and it’s just luck of the draw / install how much it matters.

Do I need a key way for gear drives

If I loctite the pulley using 243 loctite then will it be ok without?

@b264 any insights

You will need a key (the 3x3x?mm thing)
You will need to loctite the motor pulley.
Loctite 2700 or 648 is recommended by 3DServisas

Anyway to do a diy key

Yes, you need two keyways and one key.

Absolutely not.

Yes, find a 3mm drill bit and snap off a small piece from the round end using safety glasses and pliers.

I love my Dremel

And can I leave it round or should I smooth out 1 side

To clarify on this, some folks have reported success using only Loctite but I wouldn’t recommend it, others would. However, either way you can’t use Loctite 243 for that anyway, it’s the wrong formula.

I would not do that anyway as you’re unlikely to get it right on the first try and removing it once it’s Loctited is going to be a Herculean Task for you.

You must leave it round otherwise it won’t be the full 3mm, which you need.
