so it was a battery issue after all.
I would recommend replacing that entire parallel group.

Sorry, I just realized I should’ve explained what was happening more clearly.
I mentioned brownout, but not everyone knows what this means.
Brownout means the ESC is losing sufficient voltage (and thus power) to operate correctly, and this is what was happening here, because the dead group in the battery was causing the voltage to drop significantly.
