Need help with hooking up buck converters to a 12s4p battery pack!

Hey all, I’m currently in the process of putting together a new skateboard and am trying to attach an ESP32 with some WS2818 strips to a 12s4p battery pack I have made from Molicel P45B cells. The thought process is I need a 28v~120v step down to 12v to power the LED strips, and then I separately also need a 5v stepdown for the ES32. Can I run a 12v to 5v stepdown for the ES32 is that fine? I’m also wondering about the passive power draw, should the converters be connected in such a way so I can kill power to them or just accept the power draw?

So to reiterate the gear I have:

12s4p battery pack of Molicel P45B cells

30v-120v Step Down to 12v 8A
12v Step Down to 5v 3A

ESP32

WS2818 DC12V LED Strips (2m length)

And I’m trying to understand best way to power everything, if I need fuses/etc.

Thank you!

What about powering from the vesc, 5v - 12v step up or just the 5v from vesc

I would be careful with pulling from the 5v on the vesc. most of them don’t supply that much current.

and. IIRC 5v is supplied by the DRV (on DRV based vescs). and blowing that you blow the whole vesc.
