My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Nope.
Not for sure.
Water definitely got in there.
But I rode in a lot of rain so, pretty extreme conditions

But it is not totally clear the point of ingress.

I am going to try to seal a couple areas when I put this one back together.

And not ride in crazy rain…

Sorry… I got updates from fedex…those sealing clay are banned good, they took it out.

Oh Man.
I will try to find something here locally.

I was thinking about using Butyl tape I use for sealing my enclosures.

Is it difficult to get off if you need to get in an esc or battery case? I might get some myself if it’s alright. Haven’t got any experience with it

It’s difficult, but it’s possible.
It stays sticky and pliable.

I find it easier to take off than silicone, or hot glue.

That is why I like Butyl…since everything is temporary…

Don’t get me wrong. It’s a mess and a pain in the ass.

But it’s doable.

I’ve siliconed my esc case anyways so I’ll probably stick with it. No point taking it apart until something (fingers crossed it never does) goes wrong

Today I did some work on the Omakase battery.

Took steps 6785 to 9023…

Soldering…

Adding the tiny BMS wires.

Exploding with Joy to see it’s alive.

And adding more tape
And fish paper.
And more tape.
And heat shrink

And…
It is not pretty…
But should be robust.

It is nice to get to this point…
But man. Wow. It’s a lot of little steps.

It has been really slim pickings as far as riding…

Rickety…

I ran an errand on the GT today and mostly rode switch… 6.5 miles.
I almost broke myself just leaving the driveway…

This dude almost darted in front of me.

It is so nice out… I wish I could be putting down crazy miles…

Not really trying to do anything hard today, but I did pop the Rally Cat on the bench.

@glyphiks made me feel bad about my Akashas set up with 36 tooth BN pulleys.

So I ordered the Onsra 32 tooth. (I think these may be generic. I don’t remember my evolve ones having 2 bearings like these do.

I am trying this on the Rally Cat because is has the narrower FR variation of the Akashas.
Shout out @Razillian for making these happen.

In all fairness Al has a Point and this is kinda crazy.

And the onsra pulleys fit well.

But I won’t be using them…
The bearings stick out more than the BN pulleys.
So I would have to move the motor mounts out.

And I am not going to there. I harassed Kevin a bunch to get these 170mm axles so the 6354s sit close together.

So yep.

You guys know I am not all that big on clearance…

I do think It would be possible to use these pulleys with the DH Akashas if you rock them backwards.

I might go through the trouble of trying that on the Demonseed.
Or maybe not…

Well.
There goes the neighborhood.

EUC ordered.
Inmotion V11 should be here Monday.

I am freaking out about not riding and moped enough that my wife gave me the green light.

It is pretty hard to navigate the EUC world and decide what to buy.

The V11 has been around a while, and hopefully it is less of a bomb than other EUCs.

But my main drive for picking it is probably because it is on Amazon Prime, and if it turns out I hate it, or can’t really ride it without hurting myself, I would be able to send it back.

My hope is that with the looking forward standing straight ergonomics, I will be able to get some miles in. And continue doing my physical therapy to get my neck back in good shape to ride sideways a bunch.

I am sure my wife noticed me not going on rides, and I even broke out the data to show what a dive my mileage has taken.

It is an expensive toy…
I hope it does what I want I can ride and get the exercise and mental health goodness I get from riding!!!

@glyphiks riding with both feet on a positive stance on the tiny board was a trip…

It’s time for me to start thinking about putting the Omakase back together.

It’s all there.

I am looking forward to how this will turn out.

But I want to clean up the motor cables and maybe get a better angle on the mounts.

So it’s not going to be just putting it back together…

I might have a bunch of work to do…

So yeah.
There is a few things I need to figure out.

One is moving the motor mounts…
No clearance is the price you pay for Akashas.
And I am glad to pay that price.

The Rally Cat is gnarly.
The Omakase is looking worse…

So I have to mess with the mounts.
Its not going to get much better.
But I can’t leave it alone.

The other challenge I have is the battery is a little thick…
I used a sheet of ABS to give it structure. But adds thickness.
So I will need some gasketing.
And I am slightly tempted to route a tiny bit of the belly.

It sure would be sweet if it could be like this… Sitting flush.

But that’s never my luck.

I’m not sure what I will end up doing.

Something else I’m pondering is cutting the tail of the Eboosted Tayto enclosure.

But I would hate to mess it up…

I separated the motors from the Unity.

This is an old one with the thin cables and the 3mm bullets. Which I used here.

I wonder if the 2 I wrote on there means it was the second one I got.

It’s nice to see a preview with the shinny new Akashas even though I have a long ways to go

Yesterday I got up ready to fuck shit up on the Omakase!

And I messed with it throughout the day.

1st I hacked off the tail of the enclosure.

Crooked as hell… Lol

So much sanding ensued.

Turned out ok.

I used nail polish to coat the cut edge. I did not want to mess with a rattle can.

I am totally happy with how it turned out.

Then I proceeded to carve out a mm or 2 off the Omakase…
This is probably pointless.
But I did it regardless.

Later on I got to looking at the mounts.

I have way more space to work with and could move the plates one hole down.
Which was nice not having to drill out the plate to fall somewhere between…

It would hit the enclosure on a hard lean so I decided to grind the plates a tiny bit.

The grinding was done this morning.

I just used a paint pen to go over the bare aluminum.

Let me finish talking about the Omakase before we start with the new toy…

I got the Omakase buttonned up yesterday.
So far I had gotten to where I shaved the mounts.

Another Z-mote comes to life.
This is the last one I had planned on installing and makes it 8 total.

Still love the lights.

Then I wanted to make the motor cables a flat ribbon.

I could not really do the same thing as the Rally Cat with the cables to the front of the motors.

So I battles with going to the back and under the motor.

I have a couple layers of Tessa tape. So even if the motors rub I doubt they would rub through…

The motor cables were too long instead of cutting and resoldering I decided to turn the Unity around.
Then I decided to o elevate it and run the cables underneath.

Taping everything down. Never pretty. But everything should stay in place and is well insulated.

And finally lining up the enclosure.
I did different pieces of gasketing similar to the Rally Cat. Thicker on the front and back.

And boom.

It’s such a pretty board.
I love this enclosure.
And I love the shinny new Akashas.

The motor clearance is super good. For something like this…

I am going to go give it a try now to warm up for breaking myself on the EUC…

I can’t believe you’re holding it on with only four screws haha the internals must be light - looks good!

That enclosure is so solid that I didn’t feel like I needed more holes…

Now that you say that, I had meant to tape the battery down some more.

But I think I will be ok.

And wow. It had been a long time since I last rode the Omakase.

And it felt amazing. It’s big, but it feels little.
It’s perfectly comfortable.

Power and Carving felt awesome.
I only got up to 25mph.

Akashas man!!!
Wow.

So the bell rang at 7:11 this morning, just after we had woken up.

It was Amazon with the Inmotion V11…

It was a big ass heavy box, and I probably hurt my back just pushing it into the Garage.

Fancy box…

Good packaging though. Solid.

It took a little bit to get it going as I had to fill 4 air chambers and the tire.
And half ass tape some pads on there.

After I had gotten back from riding the Omakase I started trying to ride it

And I ended up doing 4 miles over about an hour.

Top speed 12.6…

It’s hard.
First few times trying to go were hard…

But I managed to get going.

I still don’t know what to make of it…
Some of the turning feels neat and fluid.

Accelerating is weird. I keep feeling like I am going to fall off the front.

Then I took a break.

At lunch I went out some more in front of the house with the little dude.

Racked up 3 miles.

So 7 ish miles so far today.
Didn’t fall.
Didn’t drop the wheel too much.

So, so far so good.
I was probably harder on my body than I should, so I might be hating it later
