My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Ok.
Easy like Sunday morning!!!

I’m going to get into some light tinkering today.

Few minor updates on the Rally Cat.

Most notable will be adding the Z-mote.

But it’s also getting new trucks up front. And new baseplates in the back.

Raked Caliber III

I also hope to improve on the gasketing job…
No promises there.

And finally what will be the most fun part…
Redoing these cables…

Gonna try to copy what @AlexB did on his Omakase…
Which was what really made me question what I had happening here.

And I barely started and already a BooBoo… gonna need new grip tape.

This apparently was a lie I told myself to get going…

This is I fact going to be a bunch of work…

Decomposing was a bit of work…

Getting it back together will be something…

I have no idea how I actually fit the Unity in here…

I think I may do away with the sensor wires and just run HFI… Seemed ok on the Omakase…

And I may have to loose the MR65s for some bullets…

Yep.
Shit done got cut off…

This may be the way to go…

I need to move the enclosure up a smidge… Like a cm…
And off course there was a insert in the way…

So I got inserts out and am epoxying…

And for my next dumb move I’m going to try to make Jason Potter proud by soldering 3mm bullets on here…

The big question is can I actually do it…

It really wasn’t bad soldering the 3mm bullets…

So tiny bullets and extended battery wire it is…

I went ahead and drilled the enclosure too…
I was nervous about that… I kinda winged it with some painters tape…
And really. For me it good enough.

It’s going to be tricky getting this thing together now…

I went and rode the Khymera for 11 miles this afternoon…

No tinkering so far today!
But I have walked by the bench a hundred times and pondered my next move…

I have had an exciting day of replacing driving with riding.

I had to go to the UPS store to mail something.
Since it was a small box I took the GT.
It’s 1.2 miles to get there…

It’s wild how even these short trips the default idea in my head is to drive…

I made a beeline there.
But wandered about on the way back making it 5.2 miles.
And even a brief shortcut through the woods really brightens you say.

Then I had a doctor’s appointment.
Also really close.
It’s a 5 minute drive.

It took me 10 minutes to get to the door.

So with parking and walking into the building i expect it would actually take me longer by car.

It did take me a few minutes to pack my gear into my backpack.

I took the ATV Ditch Life to have something I could carry, since I had to wonder around the building.
So Onewheels are out.

I would have probably picked the Rally Cat or the Omakase if they were running.
Because they move faster and can also be carried relatively easily.

But the ATV was nice to push inside.

And really, it’s nice how light and easy to pick it up is

I do need a bigger backpack…
Packing up my gear was awkward.

I made it home just in time to turn around and go pick up the kids on the Gravel Flux as per usual.

And you can see it lined up with the rides of the other cool dads!!!

This is wild.

That’s crazy. Your bro needs some better gear if he’s planning to ride 30mph+ on a OW.

jesus dude look at his duty cycle. He was on the verge of a nosedive.

I had just literally told him he needs to get some serious armor …

Still taking it easy.

Got out a bit at lunch today.
Rode the Demonseed for 7 miles.

I then jumped on the Flux and did 8 miles.
It’s weird to go right from riding thane to the squishy 200x50 CSTs.
I initially get hung up by the lack of free roll.
A couple miles in and I am rejoicing in being able to super lean into carves.
Probably the main reason I love pneumatics.

I didn’t ride any after school pick up…

I did mess with the Rally Cat some.

This is a thin deck.
So I am using M4 inserts and left the top sticking up.

I drilled off the top and ground them down.

I got bolts that fit just right and put on @monsterbuilder shinny nuts.

This sparks Joy

And I redid the grip tape.
I have some Jessup Roam on the way.
And may go back to the all black look again.

The bright green is what I happenned to have around…

And I even hooked up the Unity to the motors.

I wish I had the wires crossing like @AlexB , but that was not going to work out here…

So yep It’s really close now.
I just really need to figure out how to cram the battery in.

That is going to take some doing and some luck.

So I sent it on the Rally Cat and got it buttonned up.

This is how I turned the Unity on without digging for a power button.
As cool as I think they are now there is no room here…

I broke out the laptop to go from 23.64 to 5.1

And another Z-mote gets turned on. This is number 7.

Then I started taping stuff.

I’m using fish paper quite a bit to keep things separated.

So freaking tight in there.

But hey. It closed up…

I used pokey things to line up the stud holes.
And wood clamps to push the enclosure down to make it easier to bolt down…

I actually had the right length bolts.yey.

Once again remarkably I did not have the right length Belts and actually stole the pair I’m using from the Omakase…
Seriously. How does that happen…

It’s so much cleaner on the bottom than it used to be.
That part of the mission was really accomplished!!!

Stoked to go take it out.

I’m working on a couple little packs.

p42a 12S3P for the Demonseed and 12S2P for the Omakase.

Both with LLT smart BMS.

I am to the point that I need to presolder the nickel and solder up the BMS.

Then I will move on to welding.

Putting the little circles to use thanks to inspiration from @glyphiks

I double checked that the nickel solders and welds.
I am using 0.15 x 30 this time. And this stuff is really pliable.

I had just gotten new Lipos in the mail today for the Malectrics…

I had a problem recently trying to weld…
Today I realized it was not the batteries, but melted plastic on the positive connection side on the fuse.

So now I have 4 lipos.

Should I used 2 at a time, or could I actually use all 4, at the same time with 2 being older?

The paper cutter and cropadile helped get the nickel ready.

Dude.
There is like a thousand steps and it’s takes me 50 hours to build these batteries…
And I am not even halfway.

It never ceases to amaze me how much there is to this…

Anyways.
I am somewhere between step 523 and 617…

A lot of work behind me. But way more ahead…

I pondered how to lay out the Demonseed pack.

Then soldered up connectors for the BMS and packed things in a tidy little package with fish paper.

And I layed out the nickel for the 12S2P pack and started adding solder balls …

I got tired and stopped half way and went to go ride the GT …
