My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

That particular set up would not work with the TB 218s… I would have had to cut up the deck and move the truck mounting holes out 1 inch. But the trucks I used were typical King pin. So the axle sits further out, bigger wheel base. So they did not cause wheel bite.

I was able to use the same wheels on a similar deck (DB Paradigm)with TB 218 with no wheel bite…

So I really meant to add my everyday tinkering on here and random projects and upgrades but I have been slacking.

So let me go back in time a bit and fill in the blanks.

First up.

The Bamstoke.
This used to just have the evolve Bamboo GT drive. But it was heavy and I hate the control so I wanted to use an actual Esc on here.

Sooo I ended up buying a bunch of parts.

When in doubt buy more parts…

One of the parts I wanted was another Omakase but instead of dropping the cash I decided to cut up my Muirderer deck. Worked out pretty well.

I painted the bottom with truck bed liner because I love that stuff.
For the enclosure I cut up a psychotiller Evo enclosure and painted it as well.

The parts I bought specifically for this were:
Blue Caguamas.
Flipsky 6354 motors.
Flipsky 4.20 dual plus.

I had some evolve 63 motor mounts but they hit the tail when turning so I put the 6354 on the regular evolve mounts with 4 bolts on the middle slots. Thanks to Kamijuins for that tip.

The battery I put in here is the 10s4p pack I got back on the day from Damon for my Evolve which later on Dave put in a BMS for me. So it has been part of a lot of boards.

I like the look of how the board turned out.

I think my wheel base is a little bit longer than the actual Stoke. 1.5 to 2 inches.
And I am assuming mine is a quite a bit heavier with the larger battery.

So I don’t think mine is quite as “dynamic” as the evolve version and I’m not going to jump off curbs or do grinds at the skatepark.

But it is fun to carve around on in the neighborhood.
I brought a renewed purpose to the dual kingpin trucks.
They are kind of interesting top mounted on this shorter deck.

This is a big deal to me so I’m putting it here. Went riding the Omakase in the neighborhood.
Was messing around in front of the house and managed to do little 180 backside slides.

Shuffling parts.
Trying out the replacement Clouds Iwonder sent me to see how long before they start cracking.

This is the “Other Demonseed”.
But has the drive from the Paradigm.
The “Other Demonseed” was my flagship board with six shooters and Hexls and it was nice but the battery crapped out.
So I was going to build a big pack for it and got cells and an enclosure.

Then I decided to use the stuff for the Haero build.

The drive was working well on the Paradigm which I had recently cleaned up. But I will be damned… That deck feels cramped to me now…

So here we are.

Demonseed.
With 10s6p.
Og focboxes.
Flipsky 6374s… My first set of 6374s…
TB 218s.

And the Clouds…
Once the crack this will get either the white Boas or the six-shooters.

Im bummed about the cloudwheels too man. Caught some nasty cracks showing up last week, had to shelf them. They ride so fucking good, but unsafe is unsafe.

Glad you caught them. I hope their new design is able to hold up. I’ll gladly throw money at them if I can ride some of them without the fear in the back of my head…

“Bringing back the Evolve”

So I took the Evolve drive that was in my home made Stoke out of it.
And it is running. It has always ran well.
It has a GTX battery. I kind of hate the remote. But it has never cut out on me.

And I was feeling nostalgic about the look of the bamboo deck.

So I brought it back. With the original 83 wheels.

The only parts I bought for this were boardnamics idler mounts.
I already had the TB 218 trucks laying around.

I have dreams of learning to slide with this board… Maybe I’ll try harder after the pandemic.

I wanted to mount drop through and was worried about ground clearance with the enclosure…
Well, I didn’t have to worry because the TB trucks don’t fit in the evolve holes and I did not want to cut up the board.

So top mount it is…

Ground clearance to the mounts with the 83s is sketchy…I changed the cap bolts to button heads… Still sketchy… When I get the itch to buy random parts I may get some purple or orange Caguamas…

I certainly like the look of the board.
And it is really light.

I like the Bamboo deck. It is pretty sweet.
It is ok top mounted but I imagine I might like it better drop through… But I’m not going to mess with it.

Running 15/30 on the 83s. I think I might top out at 24mph…
It is fine. It is just to dork around.
It is a bit of a struggle getting up big hills.
I have most of my set ups geared really high because flying up hills is one of my favorite things…

Anyways…
The Evolve is back.
Trucks are better.
Hope I can sort out the slides…

“Bringing back the DB Coreflex”

So this was a build I liked. It was for messing around the neighborhood.
It used to just have a Meepo ER battery (10s2p 40T)

But I stole the battery for my MBS so this has been out of commission since November.

Soooo I bought some parts.

Whenever in doubt buy more parts…

I got cells to make a battery. My second one now… It is a 10s4p 30q pack.

I bought a backfire enclosure for the battery.

I used to run this on Abec 90s. But I got blue Caguamas because they are freaking magical.

It is pretty satisfying to get a battery running.
It is a lot of time and a lot of steps… But I’m happy I sorted out how to make them.
I have to make a big boy battery next for the Haero.
But the 12s3p for the Tayto and this one seem to be running well.

Ok with the pack done I could move on.
I bought some second hand dickyho press on pulleys for the Caguamas but not all the pins came so I had to do them bolted and didn’t have the ideal bolts so I put some heat shrink on the bols to keep them sort of centered…

I painted the Backfire enclosure with truck bed liner…you know why?..
Because I love that stuff.

I’m running 16/36 on 85s and the pick up and control feel freaking great.

I like the bounciness of this board.
It is different. It is fun to ride.
With the 10s4p I get solid 15 miles.

Good times.

This board is also a possible candidate for the white Boas.

“The DB Paradigm a sad ending”

Or maybe don’t call it the end…we will see…

Maybe one of the last iterations you guys saw of the DB Paradigm was when it had the TB tires.
I liked it ok.
Hated the 13mile range.
But liked the feel.
But i chewed through those tires fast…

Then into my life comes something new and exciting.

Cloud wheels.

The DB now was on the clouds…

So going from the TB 160s to the Clouds felt great.
I was back up to 18 mile range from 13.
I geared it way high 12/40t.
So it was super torquey.
The wheels were super grippy and crappy winter treated roads friendly.

It was probably the board I rode the most this winter.

Freaking loved it.

Good times were had…

And then on March 25th… Boom
I’m 11 miles into a night ride and the board disappears from under my feet…

The front right cloud wheel broke and I went down pretty hard…
Mostly ok thanks to all the freaking gear.

My heart is broken and now I know I need to always wear padded shorts too as part of the get up…

I had bought some grip tape and a new enclosure for the Paradigm so I jazzed it up and put the six shooters on there.
I was really proud of this enclosure installation.
1/8 foam strip on the deck and on the enclosure. It was a nice fit.

So the board came out looking great…

But back to 13 miles…

I did not love this board as much with the six-shooters as I did with the clouds…

When I got the red replacement clouds I decided I was going to shelf them…
Then I wavered.
Then I tried on the Boas… And the enclosure scrapes when turning…
So I put the red clouds on there and went for a ride.

While riding I remembered that the DB Paradigm feels a little cramped compared to the giant Rayne Demonseed.
And the demonseed was sitting idle.

So I dismantled the DB Paradigm and put the drive on the Rayne…

So on the wall goes the Paradigm…

the Rayne is for now going to be called the “Clouded Judgement/ aka the Deathwish”

I gotta go ride it now…

It is cold but I gotta try it out.

I love getting parts.
Really feeds the addiction.
These look super nice.
Thanks @Boardnamics

Going to update the TB 218 axles on the DB Coreflex and the Demonseed.

Makes me want to get some of these machined axles for all of the short boards too…

Did you paint the mounts or get black ones from dicky?

I spray painted them black.

Did you need any primer or just clean them and paint them?
Does the paint stick properly?
Thinking about painting mine since blue clashes with my black/gold color scheme

I just lightly sanded before painting and did like 3 separate passes.

Seems to stick quite well.

I am not the most meticulous person so it was good enough for me

Dude. It is pretty hard. But it is my only hobby… I have a lot of open projects and fixing to do and batteries to build…
And now that it is spring I am trying to prioritize riding over tinkering… It is funny because sometimes I look forward to rainy days because I’m like… Oh I can build.
Today I am going to put the boardnamics hangers and mounts on the DB Coreflex and the Boas.
I also need to put the MBS back together…
My enclosure for the Haero is in Missouri now so soon I will get to jump on that.
