My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Looking forward to your impressions. I’ve been thinking about buying some Riptide bushings and making my own adapters for them.

Welp, I went and did a few miles around the neighborhood on the new bushings.

And I did not get the right set up. and I had not ordered the softer ones I need now… so annoying.
I have them on order now.

I went 90A Gray / 75A Red and it was not an amazing revelation and the best thing ever for me.
So I need to try softer upfront.
I will slap my green 80A in the back right now… but it was the front that felt really restrictive…

Which MBS bushings did you have in there originally? Looks like orange and orange? I have yellow front and orange out back in my Prototipo’s trucks currently.

I had tossed out the idea of you trying the white/green combo.

Which ones are you going to buy next?

Did the riptide red//yellow combo end up working out for you? I really like the stability of that setup, but the board doesn’t feel stiff.

The red/yellow combination is perfect! So happy with the new bushings. Thanks for the recommendation.

Carves very nice at slow speed, but still stable at high speed. Best of both worlds.

Welp.
I did not hit a new record ride today…
But I did pretty much match my last record ride at 35 miles.

On a perfect sunny 75 degree fall day…
It was winter a couple days back…

I had a bit of a dance on my board accelerating on leaves on the board walk…
No fall thankfully.
But it was literally 50 feet away from where I fell on my ass a while back…

Besides that, there were no scary moments.

So the bushings behaved well.

Overall it was a really fun ride.

I just need to keep in mind that some places will just not have decent traction.

So.
Somehow I left the white 70a out of my first order.

So I got gray 90a. Green 80a. And red 75a.

I have showing up Monday the white 70a and yellow 65a.

So I will be trying green white next.

What I have now a total of 45 miles on is green in the back and Drilled out red in the front.

That set up is neat and makes me think the adapters were a good idea.

It may still be a little too loose.
But it did not try to kill me today…

So the gray 90 and red 75a combo was a bummer and super restrictive.

The green 80 and Drilled out 75a is quite carvy.
Probably more than i had before with red and orange.
But the smoothness of the turn is the thing.
The mbs bushings are jumpy right…

So it feels looser. Weirds me out. But also I had no notable scares today.
And control felt good the whole time.

So.
Good thing to do.
Needs more experimenting.

I have my second set of adapters also showing up on Monday.

They will go on the Gravel Flux that has the 3DS Trucks which are a smidge wider.
Also running red and orange.

But I have the original angle on the tail still…

So I wonder if the gray may end up getting used…
Or if that will also need green…

And finally I need to decide if I go ahead and get a thirs set for the Khymera…
Since I will probably drag my foot on 3 links forever…

Yesterday was a good day and I feel like I did things right.

It was perfect weather and it got to 80. But it felt really nice to be outside pretty much the whole day.

I sprinkled rides through the day and stacked up almost 43 miles.

Starting off with a morning warm up on the GT.
2.3 miles.

A little bit later I got out on the Omakase.
I thought it was a good day for thane.
That ended up being only 6.5 miles.

Because a few miles into my ride I saw a a dude at an intersection on a EUC.

Holy bananas!!!

Remember. This is rare for me.
I had only seen two other EUCS in real life.

And the dude was in full gear.

So I chased him down for 4 blocks and stopped him to chat…

And then he followed me home so I could grab the Flux.

So then I had my first group ride with a EUC… At 17.6 miles.

I can’t get over how futuristic that shit looks.

After that I kinda thought I was done for the day.
My legs were feeling it. Especially since I did the 35 miles the day before.

But around sunset I went to tool around on the GT.
Ended up doing 4 miles.

And finally it was a little after 7.
Dark out but still super nice.
So I took the two older kids to the playground on the trailer with the Gravel Flux.

And while they played I rode around in circles and ended up with 12.4 miles.

So. Yep.
Doing it right…

Took the little dude on a lunch break adventure yesterday.
To a creek at a park nearby.

Kinda took the long way home.

Enough so that he passed out and stayed passed out.

Yesterday I also got more riptide bushings and the second set of Radium adapters.

So the Flux is now on Green 80 and white 70.
And the gravel Flux is on drilled out gray 90 and Drilled out red 75.

I had to round off the edges of the Radium adapters for the 3DS hangers.

I haven’t tried the Flux.

The Gravel Flux I have ridden a bit. And I think I already like it better.
But I will try 80 and 70 on it as well.

And then it rained and rained…

So I fell today.

I seem to be getting a little more of that action than previous years…

But all is good. It was a gentle landing.

I took the Gravel Flux for school pick up.
And sometimes instead of going into the Parking lot i go on these grass hills on the side of the school to get near the door.

So I hit a mud patch and the board just stops.

And I do the superman!!!

It was a good laugh…

I got some catching up to do here…

But I did something interesting last night.

I went on a 17 mile night ride on the Flux with Benji.

And I held my remote on the opposite hand.

I ride goofy and typically hold my remote on my right hand which happens to me my front hand.

That is less than ideal for winter.

It was a little weird.
And I had some scares. But nothing major that made me fall or anything like that.

So that is really promising.
Holding the remote behind my back and being able to change hands should be a big help dealing with cold hands in the winter.

This is such an awesome thread to follow! Tons of good stuff in here.

I know most winter gloves are too bulky to ride with, have you tried cold weather Motocross gloves? These have enough insulation to keep your hands warm but not so much that you lose feel of your remote.

@Venom121212 has the perfect solution for front hand control use in winter. Ice scraper mitten. :exploding_head:

It works soooo well and doesn’t interfere with my controls. Just be careful taking it on and off. Definitely turn the remote off before trying

Dude.
You know.
I have experimented with lots of different gloves.

But just the other day I was looking at motocross winter gloves…
Or a winter version from EVS.

I have their wrister model and like it but it is not very warm…

I didn’t buy these because they were out of stock on Amazon.

I just glue slide pucks from 1Protect and that is a big help.

@cfelzien I had seen @Venom121212 “oven mitts” set up… But I never actually chased after it.

Since it relatively warm out still I have been rocking the 1protect full fingered gloves.
And I like them quite a bit.

I have a pretty good but pretty extreme solution with the heated gloves.
Also with slide pucks on there…

These heated gloves are actually a big part of why I am so hung up on using trigger remotes.

I can use them with the mini and they have been good with the Z.mote.

My finger is somewhat stuck in the trigger.

But I am able to get good control.
Provided I don’t have the Remote set to Current mode…

But it’s not a mit. it’s like a pillow case for muh strong hand.

And here we go again…

The other side of my BN AT drive decided it needed some loving…

Thank you skate gods for making this yet another gentle failure.
Funny noises happened and I rode home and there was no fall.

So all is good.

The right side that rerecently did this seems fine still so hooray for that.

On the plus side it looks like you can almost go with 10mm motor shafts now.
