MPCNC DIY Build

Can get much cheaper if you don’t get it from OpenBuilds direct, search bulkman 3d on eBay, I got a 700x500 kit from him, no issues whatsoever. I did upgrade the motors but that was the plan, the motors that came with the workbee went towards building a 3d printer

@rey8801 I already have rails laying around for that… lol

Clever choice. The only Modifications I would do are in order. Biffier and higher gantry to gain Z travel plus inear rails. Then in case of need of high accuracy ball screws but you can get already in the range of 0.05mm tollerance with antibacklash nuts.
The motors on the 1m travel at least nema 23 high torque for sure. Now there are servo motor at 115 Euro which will make the accuracy incredible high but I see it worth it only if you have ball screw installed.
The nice thing that you have a cnc to make your parta and the CAD file to model it. Perfect scenario.

hehe yeah I’ll be cutting the parts to upgrade to linear :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: personally I have no need for more Z in the cnc, and that 1.5kw spindle is F’ing heavy, need to beef up the Z as-is

Nice thing of a the aluminium profile used for the build is that you can easily attach new parts check avid CNC and copy the Z plate. The spindle you have is amazing for the price.
The extra Z is in case you install a small vise. When I had only the router was always my problem. Parts 50mm tall started to be a problem to machine

I actually have an upgrade for my Z laying around… lol

Thst look like a spindle motor. How shoud it trasmit the power? Its an uncommon solution for a router thst why I ask

I picked up the whole assembly for like $100 on ebay  before i even had the workbee kit, when I saw it I knew one day I’ll need it

Dang, workbee kit for the size I need is only $850.

I’d be able to use my Rambo 1.5 board with that kit right?

that was a good catch. I never get good deals on auctions :disappointed:

it can do 3-4A per motor?

@rey8801 the person selling it wasn’t the original owner and basically sold it for shipping weight+ a few bucks, I got the gantry it sat on too…for scrap price

yes. that what I suggested you months ago

I think he has external drives. the rambo is not only control board?

Lol, too much has happened for me to remember things!!

It’s a good idea, I’m still going to try and get this one up and slowly save up some money for the workbee.

I’m pretty sure the new job comes with a bonus! Hello workbee!!!

you can save a ton of money if you can cut the workbee plates your self, the rest are standard parts

I wouldn’t be against cutting some plates when I’m setup…

true if you find a shop that does plasma or laser cutting you send the dxf files. the rest in just aluminum profile. You can get them even thicker for that price.

I have a generous offer for the plates to be cut for me at cost of the material.

I haven’t sourced the other parts to see exactly how much it would save me…have done that math?

i did… a while ago, no clue now
The best time to buy if you wanna get your own plates is during OpenBuilds black Friday sale for all the c beams and other stuff

I’m assuming thicker = more rigidity = more gooder

Anyone know a good source for v slot in the US?
