Motors make horrible noise (stuttering). Tried everything

A friend gave me his broken koowheel d3m.

The esc was dead. I found out koowheel used the standard hobbywing esc. Koowheel wanted 160€ for a replacement. Ownboard sells a hobbywing esc for only 50 bucks (including remote) !

I obviously went for the ownboard esc.

While the esc is identical, the wiring is different, I can’t get it to work, both motors make this horrible noise when I accelerate more than just a little. According to my friend the motors worked fine before the esc gave down. I’m thus thinking there’s a wiring issue.

Here a video of the best possible wiring combination I found

Here is everything I tried:

Followed this famous guide, tried every possible combination

The motors look splendid from the inside

Hall sensors seem to work (alternating between 0 and ~3v)

Checked wiring

Both motors have the EXACT same issue.

Does anyone have an idea? I’m out of options

Take out the hall sensor from the esc and try it again. The hall sensor wiring could be different which is why its stuttering. Might have to run it unsensored.

Can you show a close-up of the small stickers from both ESCs?

could be an internal short in the windings

Just tried it, it’s kind of worse without the hall sensors connected. The noise is still there, and occasionally it won’t turn at all.

Again, both motors act the same way. Both ‘sides’ of the esc same thing

There are unfortunately no stickers on either of them.
But here are some links:
Old esc: https://koowheelskateboard.com/products/koowheel-mainboard-for-koowheel-electric-skateboard

New esc:

Sounds plausible, I’m gonna measure the resistances
Still weird the same thing happened to both motors, while both worked fine with the old esc.
