Motor voltage and motor RPM discussion

At some point, voltage overcomes the resistance of the insulation, and everything melts I don’t think 150v AC (18s is ~75v DC, single phase of motor would swing from -75v to +75) is at that limit, but I think it’s getting close.

I fuckin hope so that sounds Sick!!

To elaborate further, most motor wire is rated to ~500-600 volts, if there is 0 damage to wire coating. the process of wrapping a core tends to bang up the coating a bit. Also the higher the frequency, (faster switching) the more ‘leaky’ the voltage is. a motor with a visible corona is a beautiful, terrifying thing if you are riding it.

My personal limit for hobby grade motor is ~70v DC. The few times I played with greater voltage than that with hobby motors didn’t work well, and let out the magic smoke at voltages > 100v DC

Haha thanks. Won’t be done for a while, might go for 6p instead of 4p. I have a gut feeling my setup will work fine on 16s.
