Motor pulleys needed

I need a pair of motor pulleys, my other ones have stripped set screws and won’t stay tight on the shaft, eventually after riding it starts to loosen, even with blue loctite and the pulleys don’t have space for a keyway, which I know is probably the whole problem. The shaft is 8mm. So if anybody has a pair of 14-18t pulleys, hit me up. I really want to take this thing on a proper ride :joy:

I have a set of 15T pulleys. For 10mm wide belts, HTD5m. 8mm bore, 3mm keyway. Can also include the keyways and extra grub screws. Shoot me a DM.

If you can’t find any these aren’t a bad option.

Did pulleys get hard to find…

Dang

Used to get from Janux and Boardnamics.

These seem expensive.

if stripped set screws means the hex hole is stripped. this is not uncommon.
try to acquire a good well fitting hex bit. (wera hexplus) and learn what torque it can take ( yah… idk it’s a feel) and rely on loctite to keep it in place.

If stripped set screws means the threaded holes or threads were stripped… this is also fairly easy to do… learn to be very careful about not cross threading. try to learn the turn backwards first trick.

initially turn it backwards (counterclockwise) slightly before turning it in the normal tightening direction, essentially “backing up” the screw to ensure the threads align properly before fully engaging them; this is usually done until you hear a slight click or feel a slight pop, indicating proper thread alignment

try doing it with a nut and bolt… you can see the “click”/“pop” is the start of the thread on the bolt going over the start of the thread on the nut

yeah use a keyway if you can. it won’t stop the grubs from vibrating loose but it’ll help. use loctite and let it cure.

Thanks for that advice @fessyfoo, yeah that all makes sense. Also, it feels like the shaft is spinning but the pulley isn’t.

One think you can also try is just attach the pulley to the shaft with a few (small!) drops of green locktite (retaining compound). It’s how a lot of us hold on our stooge gear pinions on our Raceboards (in socal, at lease)

Interesting, just straight pulley to the shaft?

Yup. We usually also have a set screw that we put in with red locktite, but the green does most the work. Requires torch heat to pry off

Clean the inside of the pulley and the shaft well, use some isopropyl alchol. Use green loctite 648, cover a thin film around the shaft. Would highly recommend marking where the pulley is in the perfect position for your belts, cause once you put the pulley onto the shaft with green loctite you only have like 5-10 min before the loctite cures enough to lock the pulley in place. Let it cure for around 24hrs and you should be good to go.

Oh ok. Blue locktite wouldn’t work for that kind of thing?

I believe the Loctite 648 , works super good. Indeed only comes off with HEAT :fire:

edit! oh sorry was mentioned before🧐
