Motor mounts in EU

Hi there,

it’s been a while since my active days in the builders forum but I am finally getting back to building a board.
I still have a @whitepony (OGs might remember his builds) deck that needs to be put to use.
I have some old @torqueboards trucks and am in urgent need for suitable motor mounts in the EU that can hold both 50mm as well as 63mm motors.
They also need to be long enough so that I can use my Bergmeister wheels with 60T pulleys. Ideally with a belt tensioner to limit belt skipping.

Does anybody know where to buy something like this? I have been out of the game for a while and all the shops I remember have shut down.

Best,
Maxid

One of the greats!

+1 for @IDEA mounts

they seem to only work with 63mm motors if I am not mistaken?

Yeah, basically the standard these days. 50mm motors are too weak to push a full size human around.

I have been riding a 50mm single motor setup in the past just fine - at 82kg bodyweight.

At what speed? 15kph?

Speed is not determined by motor size but your setup and gearing: I think with 10S, 140kv and 15/60T pulleys it was something like 30km/h - which is perfectly fine in my mind.

Probably, but if you reach out to @IDEA he might be able to sort out something custom :man_shrugging:

If ur willing to file down my caliber II clamps a little to fit the bigger TB218 profile then my idler mounts work for you. Fits both 50mm and 63mm motors.

They look really nice but you are US based right?
What’s your experience with the customs procedure and shipping? I remember it as a PITA but might be wrong nowadays.

Ships from California. Customs ain’t so bad. I declare like $30. Must have shipped to EU 1000 times in the course of business, not often is there a real problem.

On my website, all types of mounts I offer can be installed on TorqueBoards trucks — but the key question is whether you have the older TB218 trucks or the CNC version (TB CNC)? The hanger shape is slightly different, so it’s important to confirm which one you’re using.

I design, produce, and ship all parts myself within Europe, so if you’re located in the EU, you won’t have to deal with any customs fees or import duties.

My motor mounts are designed specifically for 63xx motors, but on request I can also produce a dedicated version for 50xx motors. Just note that it won’t be a universal mount — it’ll be made for one motor size only.

Let me know which trucks you’ve got, and I’ll help you choose the best solution. I also offer long mounts suitable for 60T pulleys and optional belt tensioners.

I have the old TB218 from like 2016.
@IDEA would be great if you could help me out choosing the right mounts.
I have a single SK3 149kv but also two 5065 with 200kv and one 5065 with 140kv so it’s tough to decide what to go for. The 5065 seem really nice because they are not as heavy as the SK3 but still plenty powerful for my use case of just carving around on tarmac.
Do you think we could do one for 5065 and one standard for the SK3? Right now it is still a single setup anyway. Or I buy two motor plates for the 50s and just one additional plate for 63?
Let me know what works for you. Also I think belt tensioners would be awesome especially on a single drive at heavy braking.
Please let me know what to do and thank you very much for the support!

Just a quick note regarding the TB218 trucks — their hanger surfaces are a bit imprecise because they’re cast, not CNC machined.
Because of that, the best solution would be to use dual clamps with a crossbar.
If you decide to use only a single clamp, there’s a chance that after tightening, the motor plate may not sit perfectly perpendicular to the axle (i.e., the hanger slot). This can cause slight misalignment.

The only mount I offer with a crossbar is this type: Motor mounts for RKP trucks and all IDEA trucks. – eFreedom
Size XL 113-120mm

It’s relatively long, which not only allows mounting large wheel pulleys, but also helps position the motors higher up. This reduces the risk of your deck tail hitting the motors, especially during hard turns or with kicktails.

Please note that the crossbar is a custom-made part, as it must be tailored to the specific truck width. Because of this, the total price of the mount is higher than the standard setups listed on my website.

Of course, you can replace the crossbar with two rods and build a support yourself.
Here’s a photo of that kind of DIY solution:

Another option is to use a very short motor mount — but this version does not allow for a crossbar.
Here’s a photo of such a mount I previously made for 50xx motors.
The same type is currently available in the shop for 63xx motors.

Your mounts look very nice.
Personally I don’t enjoy the look of motors sticking out the back very much so I need to find a solution to be mounted forward facing under the deck.
Crossbar is a nice feature but currently I am not sure if I even want to go for a dual setup.
The short ones thus are probably the best option mounting wise but they don’t offer the possibility of using an idler - or do they? Issue with a short mount is also that with a 60T pulley there is almost no space for the idler to sit.

Right now I have roughly 72mm center to center distance but that means the motor pulley is almost sitting right next to the wheel pulley

Just had a look at your images again and how do you keep the belt from slipping at the single drive without an idler? That is the biggest problem on my current setup when braking

What type of clamp do I have to order from your website for the TB218s?

I did some drawings yesterday and got to the point where I thought that using 50mm motors might still work with your standard mounts since there is a method to mount them using two of the mounting holes.

Did anyone every try?

Yeah i remember people doing this back in the day. Personally i wouldn’t trust a motor only mounted by 2 bolts, but if you’re ok with it, it should work

I use idlers to prevent belt slippage, but in that case you need to choose a mount with idlers and install the motors rear-facing.

If you want mounts for TB218 trucks, just choose any clamp on the website and leave a note in the comments that it’s for TB218. I’ll make a one-piece clamp with two set screws, which allows for a slightly larger clamp opening and a better fit for these trucks.

However, it’s best if you measure the cross-section of the hanger and send me the dimensions, so I can make sure the clamp fits perfectly. I’ve made clamps for TB218 in the past, but it was a long time ago and I’m not sure if I still have the original design or if I need to create a new one.

If you want mounts for both 50xx and 63xx motors, please order two sets and write in the comments or email me which mount should be for which motor. All mounts on the website are made for 63xx motors by default, but I can modify the mounting holes as needed.

All mounts are sold in pairs (left + right).

If you’re looking for better RKP trucks, I have two TB220 CNC trucks with longer axles and two Trampa 12Fifties – CNC precision trucks in stock.
Both are brand new, never used, and they will definitely perform better than TB218
