We might be 13.66 feet above sea level instead of 11, and are in the very center of the cone, and they are saying it will be weakening from a high end CAT 4, to a Cat 3 on landfall.
If we are in southern eyewall, were Fvcked.
GFS model has another Tropical system moving this way outta the Caribbean, next week.
So in the process of seeing all that will get wet if the surge exceeds 13.66feet here, I somehow got sidetracked, and started working on Esk8 stuff.
I put the Caliber trucks, M1 inboard 80mm hubs, with protected connectors, on the no longer diagonal Mini, and pushed it a few laps around the wet driveway, and dismissed my previous concerns regarding foot bite and loss of nimblity.
It looks a bit bizarre with such wide trucks on a small narrow deck, but I’ll get used to it.
My previous enclosure plug, my first, I used packing foam, and cardboard atop that and tape above that, but the board concave caused me some issues with the corners lifting.
This time I decided to build a hollow cardboard plug from some nice dual wall cardboard and hot glue.
Im probably gonna let cardboard drink some laminating epoxy, and fair the corners, and make sure there will be no wheel bite, before covering it with tape, waxing it, and laminating it, and should be able to reuse the plug.
It is gonna be deeper than I originally envisioned, and I’ll likely overbuild it
They are calling for a surge to 12’, but I think this is conservative.
With a Cat 5 having generated huge swells as the storm rides atop it, moving directly at the coast, the shallow water offshore piling up and up, Unprecedented surge is likely to the south of where eye makes landfall.
Large swells have longer periods, and longer periods feel the shelving bottom sooner, which is drag, and will cause waves to break and lose some energy well offshore, but there are few escape routes for the water with such bathymetry.
Were kind of fucked.
Even though they say it will be weakening at landfall, West coast.of Florida is in for a reckoning, and somewhere, just south of the eyewall, is gonna get smeared, but everywhere south of eyewall is gonna flood.
the 4-7’ surge from Helene did so much damage on the barrier islands here, and the storm.passed 130miles offshore moving parallel to coast.
12’ of surge and the huge swell atop it is just gonna smear these islands and well inland.
Glad we are not on a barrier island, and the barrier island to our west is pretty wide .
I was half way here, when I saw an unscheduled Yard waste truck hunting, and had them follow me home, where I had cut a lot of weight from and near the backyard fence yesterday.
The guy loading the truck got a kick out of Fiona staying put in the chariot when I ran to the back yard to grab the bin.
Thick southern accent:
" She look like she upset y’all turned around. That thing look fun"
Finally, her pink harness made her gender obvious.
Frogs and lizards and owls and bats all are freaking the F out, the former 2 trying to climb my legs as I clean up some green yard waste I cut down.
A dozen dragon flies were swarming a small open area on the crushed shell trail and escorted us as we rolled past.
We reluctantly Said goodbye to the watering hole pavillion.
It’s likely gonna be gone come Friday.
15 feet of surge seems conservative the way Miltion the cat 5 Monster is growing, and pushing longer period groundswell swell, with shorter period windswell while riding atop an Already excited sea state, magnifying it, into a low lying coastal area where it cannot escape.
There is a house 0.5 miles due south of me, whose roof is stacked 8 deep, with Hundreds if not thousands of unlaid, unsecured new roof tiles.
So freaking irresponsible.
Heavy rain started a short while ago.
Very weird sounding thunder. Like its being broadcast on a powerful speaker from very far away instead of the regular T storm claps.
Not much wind yet, no gusts over 25mph/ 40kph yet.
Dad says he’s going 5 miles inland to his recently passed brothers house.
They all want me there.
Alzhammered mother is freaking out, then oblivious, then freaking again.
Kind of want to stay, kind of want to drive well inland and southeast.
Hope there is a roof and the house is mostly habitable afterwards.
