Alright, I’ve been reading and reading and reading getting caught up on the situation in several threads.

The only thing I haven’t figured out is what happened with DRI and his other account.

Anyways, I have a few things to say…I don’t mean to patronize those who understand what I’m putting down, and I don’t mean to come off condescending to those who may not have considered this. It is something I know a smidge about. Get some popcorn ya filthy animals, here’s just shy of 1000 words of my opinion on the matter

Overall, I think @longhairedboy has done a nice job with this. He discovered an incident, he investigated, he had policies/agreements in place and he stuck to firm disciplinary action he knew would concern the community-and it sounds like they agreed upon beforehand, he released information only when he had completed that investigation, he has plans to create a QA process to monitor and prevent re-occurrence and since then he has made himself available to questions, has been humbled and honest in his responses and continues to do so. Anyone with some decent work experience, especially in the corporate world, will see this as exceptional - in regards to handling a breach like this for an organization.

Regarding the mods that breached the confidentiality agreement during the investigation: That’s a big fucking deal in the real world. People get fired for shit like that all the time. Breaches like that can massively compromise the reputation of the organization’s integrity and transparency. Now, I understand that seems excessive for an esk8 forum. But this is the scenario I mentioned in the fundraising thread from a few months back when I asked about rainy day/problem funds. People are stupid, and you can still be held liable for their stupidity-like putting personal info in a PM, or PM peeking to spy on a business-related venture - that can get bad quick. Why do you think a lot of these sites and forums dropped the word “private” before “message”? Because the person who got their identity stolen just has to say they presumed private meant secure. Having said all that, these investigations are as extremely important to handle properly as they are to communicate. Mishandling these will compromise the integrity of the investigation and leads to more issues.
I know some of the mods are important to the community and contribute a lot. While those are important, what is most important is whether or not the community will retain their trust and the integrity of the moderator group. From my perspective, it’s important that the party understands the implications of one of those leaks going wrong, etc. If they feel like they got over punished for leaking info to friends then that’s insufficient. I have less experience interacting with @Zach than @Billgordon , and honestly, I have pretty minimal with both. I think its a relationship worth mending since they seem to maintain the community’s trust, they are big contributors and seem to be generally well-liked. For punishment (once Daemons been through therapy to get over this and has his QA process up), I recommend that one year from your press release we do a limited run fundraiser Tshirt with those two on it in some way poking fun at this in a good way, if they’re still around.

To the community…

Guys, this is not a fucking democracy. It’s still private and he shares what’s happening. I’m not trying to sound all Jason circa 2019 here but If you don’t like it, go make your own website – I say that because none of us have any official share in the site management. But seriously, just calm the hell down. He’s being 100% the opposite of what we dealt with on the builder’s forum with Potter.
First, don’t be a fool. This website is not a place for messaging anything you can get your identity or credit card info stolen from. It’s probably not a great place to have significant business development and collaboration discussions that could majorly hurt your business. Be professionals.

Voting in admins: No, won’t work. I think the members should have the ability to nominate members for admin after talking to the candidate. You could also have a high-level thread for nominations and people could give some feedback. From there, vetting by the remainder of the mod group and approval by the mod group. That’s as democratic as it should get IMO.

Lastly, on our very own QAnon-level conspiracy theory that @Lee_Wright spun up: If there is credible evidence, present it and do it professionally. The community does not need this distraction. That’s the direct result of the mod breach I discussed above, now fracturing the integrity of the whole thing. I’m not interested in anymore swamp theory.
The community should feel confident that if that had occurred, it would get out eventually. We should move on.

Its too much drama. I understand that people are upset, but everyone needs to take a breath. He said multiple times that he will tell us when they have something to say. We will all survive with a little patience

Thanks to the mods still here for all the work done to keep this running. Thank you to everyone here for your time and consideration in reading this. I feel confident that we will be better equipped to detect earlier if it occurs again. I hope we can heal and move on from this quickly

One last bit since I brought it up earlier, if you’ve been in this or other threads bitching up a storm or demanding how the site should be handled and you’re not a contributor, GTFO… Or at least go contribute. Just my .02
