Been reading about pneumatics and such and am planning to mill some hubs on my CNC as the urethane is nice, but the roads and such aren’t good enough to make riding enjoyable. Too many rough spots.
We’re mostly street riding and don’t plan on being off road much / if at all. The 6” seems like the way to go but most of the posts I see, folks are using 8” tires. I’m not too concerned about reduced range - we haven’t pushed the range limits. Most rides are under a few miles.
I guess what confuses me is some hubs say they can support 6.3” and up to 8” tires… then some are very specific and don’t indicate supporting a “range” … is there a sweet spot for the hub diameter and width? I have to use at least 10mm ID bearings and I’ve noticed some hubs support bearings larger than 22 mm OD bearings.
Since I’m starting with a blank piece of aluminum I can use whatever bearings are best. I’ll be using steel bearings as my experience with ceramic was pretty bad. So there are a ton of bearing options available. Wondering if the larger bearings make a noticeable difference? I’ve noticed some use angular contact bearings?
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
