Metal baseplate for MBS Matrix trucks

Hi guys!

I have MBS Matrix trucks, and I’m trying to replace standard plastic baseplate with a metal one. So, I have this:

So far, I’ve found two metal baseplates which will probably suit me:

  1. MBS Metal Matrix II Top Truck
  2. MBS Matrix Pro Top Truck

I’m 100% sure that item №1 will suit me (because there are posts that prove it: first and second) but item №2 is better for me, because it’s cheaper and there is a shop close to me where I can buy it.

So, could someone please tell me, could I use item №2? Are there any disadvantages compared with item №1?

It looks like #2 is designed for the original matrix truck as it doesn’t have the 2nd bit inside it that holds the shock blox. I think #2 will be fine

As far as I know #1 was designed on base of #2 just with a slight design change to fit the shock blocks.
I would say you good with both, but @MBS could tell you for sure.

That guy made it work but to use his own words, it’s a pain in the ass to adapt.

They will both work, mbs has confirmed. You just need to remove the shock block bar to use the springs.

Personally I’d go for that one, then you can upgrade to shock blocks when you want to.

Ps you want to

Ok guys, thank you all very much! The situation is clear.

Btw, I’ve also found some related information myself (maybe it will be helpful for someone):

In case you don’t want to go to the evil forum to read the answer from MBS

Sorry for the delay. Been away for the holiday.
What the others said about the Metal Matrix II trucks being backward compatible to the Matrix Pro trucks is true (just remove the shock block plate), but in your case compatibility is going to be tough because you’re dealing with the ORIGINAL matrix trucks which used 10mm king pins. Everything after that used 8mm king pins. A picture to explain the main iterations of MBS trucks.

In your case you’d need to purchase the some new style king pin bushes and drill them out to have 10mm id.

Or fabricate some from scratch if you have that option.

Does the Metal Matrix 2 baseplate fits on a Trampa deck? Or do I need to modify the baseplate/deck because of different holes…?

Should be fine. I run mine on a trampa deck without issues or need for new holes.

Thank you Andy! So I don’t need to drill new holes. What kind deck you are riding?

To edit my last statement, it could be that the carver deck would need different hole pattern, but I can’t say for sure as trampa changed there cut outs over time. With a hs11 or holy pro or the electric decks you shouldn’t have an issue for sure.
I have mine on a holy pro deck.

That’s a nice combination :ok_hand:
Which ply you go for?

My weight is round about 90kg - so it will be 17ply i think

I have a 15ply and a 16ply at 85kg (so maybe 90kg with gear) 15ply is bouncy and I bottom out on bigger jumps easy (besides this I like it a lot) the 16ply is what I would probably choose again if I would buy one more deck.
17ply will be definitely stable and if you plan to go fast often, or plan on a heavy big battery pack than it’s the right choice for sure.

What’s the approximate weight of your battery pack? I’m also planning a Trampa Holy pro with Matrix trucks and are wondering what ply to choose. I weight about 85 geared up and are thinking about doing a 12s6p or maybe even go to a 12s8p, the battery alone will weight about 4,5kg then. Would like to be able to do 35km/h without any wobbles.

12s7p 18650s for now, so around 4.5-4.8kg with case.
35km/h stable shouldn’t be an issue even with 15ply.
I mean it’s not only the deck, also how your trucks are set up and how confident you ride very much influence if you get wobbles at lower or higher speeds.

Just have no experience with these kind of decks and how they flex, been riding for a couple of years with some premade boards and also ones that I build myself. Super stoked to go off-road!
