Thanks for the input Fess. I know they are supposed to feel loose just don’t know what normal loose on 3-links should be. I’ll take a look at swapping bushings since the red seems useless when I back them off
We supply the same bushings to all three.
Hey Mike,
Definitely over compressed. A good starting point is to back off and close the bushing gap between the carrier spherical and the bushing. Add 1/4 turn to preload. From there adjust in 1/4 turn incrimates as neede. 1/4 turn does a lot.
I would suggest spending some time with the red white 84/87 krank setup and get acclimated before changing bushings. Most on these for the first time have that loose bushing feeling at the beginning. The 100% spherical bearing/mechanical steering will do what your deck angle input tells it to do.
You can be more decisive in your final bushing setup once you have some experience with the steering system.
For a 230lb person who likes a firm bushing setup we suggest the 87a front 90a rear krank. Extra firm go 90/93.
For a low bushing ramping rate flip the bushing cups to flat. For a high ramping rate go cupped
Bushing with proper preload cupped.
Bushing with proper preload non cupped
Increased rod angle increases steering to deck angle ratio.
Run the rear angle in the board side holes.
Run the front truck radius rods in the roadside holes.
Check every nut, bolt and fastener before and after your first couple of rides. I use a drop of blue on the bushing adj nut threads.
Thanks for all the detailed info Moe. I definitely need to add loctite to all the bolts, couple bolts were rattling after the short slow ride. I’ll back off the bushing nut, gear up and go for real test ride.
Seems I’m going crazy
maybe the cup washers was obscuring more of the bushing than I was expecting. I didn’t have the boards side by side, was going off of memory
Sometimes I find that I need a little more holding power than blue can offer. Permatex has an orange threadlocker that is “high strength but removable”.
A few members of Team MAD and myself have been using it with good success. Get the small bottle that sits upright. Makes less of a mess.
