Meepo Hurricane with Stormcore 60d?

Hey guys, I was thinking about changing out the ESC the Ling Yi ESC with a Stormcore 60d.

I have not been impressed with the Ling Yi performance. The Ling Yi seems to have stepped levels of speed and is not smooth when accelerating. Who knows, maybe my ESC is defective.

Do you see any difficulties with swapping the Stormcore 60d with the Ling Yi?

Thanks in advance!

I just swapped a 60d into a Zeus and it was a tiiiiiight fit that required some modification to the enclosure.

On top of that, you need to check and see if the bms is discharge bypassed or not. The Zeus’s was and my friend took a spill when he pulled too many amps and it shut off.

Pics of the inside would help out.

hurricane has a 100a cont. “rated” discharge bms

but i see a problem that could happen is, the lingyi is stuck to the heatsink, so probably need to do some prying

Yeah, that’s how the Zeus was. I 100% could not get the lingyi out and just ground down all the tall components like a caveman.

If it fits, it sits

Whole metal wall was around that before with zero gap to pry it up from. It is literally poured into a heat sink. Just snapped the capacitors and shaved the conformal coating down.

Stormcore is thicc

I guess that’s one way to make sure it has good thermal transfer lol

For the future, if people see this: If something is covered in epoxy, just use a heat gun and gently heat it up. The polymere bonds will break with heat and eventually you can pull whatever shit you’re trying to loosen just up/out. Fair warning: its gonna be a sticky mess.

Good point! It did not get loose with a heat gun. I had to crank my soldering reflow station up to get it to start fracturing off in chips. It was similar to a glass shard butter consistency.

Holy shit I never encountered an epoxy that was immune to heat, tf they put in there

It didn’t dissolve with any weird solvents I had either. Almost like a conformal coat / epoxy love child.

well to get epoxy to dissolve you need pretty hard shit, your standard acetone does very little. Heat is usually the way to go.

Maybe the easiest thing to do is have someone make a new heatsink. Could save alot of time.

A Hurricane with sold ESC could be a serious and easy to modulate beast!

I’m thankful. I felt so bad for the dude. He had the biggest grin on his face, happy with his new takeoff power, just to have the rug pulled from under him
