Mechanical step in binding

Hey guys,

My background is cycling and skiing. Both sports use a mechanical binding. Any ideas that are applicable to ESK8, especially racing?

I’ve always toyed around with the idea of mounting clip-in pedals to an esk8 but the shoes all suck

Pretty much any snowboarder that’s ever used them knows how bad the stomp-in bindings are, but that’s on snow so idk if our use would be different. They’re pretty heavy though.

There’s not really a good system that locks in the heel and toe, yet still allows for full range of motion even into a full tuck.

I have never ESK8 raced, but the cycling clipless system may work for the forward foot assuming that foot stays planted without twisting forces. Mountain biking shoes already make good ESK8 riding shoes and you can walk around in them.
The SPD pedal mechanism, however, requires significant stack height. So you’ll need to figure a way to cut out the deck and bury it so just the attachment point sticks out. But that’s a cool idea!

I think a clipless mountain bike pedal system might work really well.
