I don’t want to derail too much but if you want infinite tire life and don’t mind the 208mm diameter, try out the CST C190 9x3.5 slicks. They also have 8x3s which are a bit more friendly for daily driving (the 9x3.5s are super stiff), not sure which do better on track as I only tried the 9x3.5 so far, but I love them. I have around 15 track sessions on them most 1h+ and they are not corded yet. Last session the weather got a bit nicer (22C) and I was pushing around 1.3-1.4Gs on them - and I didn’t reach their grip limit yet at 22C ambient (around 40C surface temp)
Just for comparison on a similar surface I could cord a set of MBS roadies in 15-20 minutes. And there’s no comparison between the grip of the two
I’m running mine on the Linnpower quick release hubs (edit** 58mm wide) and they’re great. Wider would be more grip as long as it’s not a treated surface.
Any way to fit these on a Hoyt 7” hub? I have four 7” Novas waiting to go and was going to toss them on the Dadbod as the Hoyt tires are going bald. The diameter of the hub where the tire sits is 110mm and the ID of the Nova’s bead is 94mm so it looks like a no-go, but maybe someone got it working?
They’re lawn mower tires, so they’re available in multiple places, though I can tell you from experience that Cheng Shin C190 Smooth Yard - Lawn Tires | Free US Shipping are out of stock on the ones for 4-inch wheels indefinitely despite showing up on the site. Carlisle Smooth Yard - Lawn Tires | Free US Shipping and Kenda K404 Smooth Yard - Lawn Tires | Free US Shipping are pretty similar, but the Kendas are actually intended to be tubeless. I’m running some of the Kendas with tubes right now, but it was a pain to get them to mount on Rockstar Pro Xls. I ended up 3d printing a liner to make sure they went evenly up onto the larger part of the bead. I don’t have much tire experience at all, so I can’t really comment on how good they are with any meaningfulness.
Yeah they are lawn mower tires. Mine are actually intended to be used tubeless but I run them with a tube, and mine seated nicely and felt balanced.
Turns out there are actually multiple different tires under the same name, but this one should be the same one that I have.
Now that I’ve recently been racing on Linns, I can definitely say that the linns have more grip under most circumstances. On some tracks the 9" are fairly close with the linns having a slight edge, while on others the linns are just way better. What I can definitely say though is that these are easier to tame on the edge of grip then the linns, while managing to still stay fairly responsive. If you want something around this size they are good though.
Another option that’d be worth trying is Kenda K404 in the lower durometer version, as some of those are made for gokarts and have a lower durometer. I think you are looking for them in 63A. I haven’t personally tried these and probably never will as my big wheel project is going to 10x4.5-5 kart race tires with a very low to the ground steel frame. The tires I have now but am yet to ride on are 36A
