Matrix 2 rattle noise

Just wrapping up a build and noticing that the matrix 2 center pin has a nyloc nut on the back with a washer at the front and rear.

Seems like this center pin needs to be loose so the truck can pivot. I.e. if you tighten up the center pin super tight, I imagine it would bind the pivot up.

Since the center pin is loose ish, the washers can rattle around which is annoying. Is there a way to fix this?

I swear when I tightened it up just enough so that it doesn’t rattle, it ends up working itself loose again due to the side to side pivoting movement.

Not sure if I explained that well. I’ll add some pictures tomorrow and take a closer look at the setup.

Thinking maybe a thin tpu or rubber washer could be used to dampen the metal on metal contact.

Yeah this was a pretty common complaint. I have some urethane replacement bushings that replace the metal king pin bearing if you want to try them out. Before I had those, I was double nyloc nutting and cranking them down. The nut shouldn’t restrict the movement of the hanger, even when fully tightened.

I have the same issue…but my bushings are pretty old, not sure if thats the root cause. The cracking sound is annoying.

Oh interesting, I’m still trying to wrap my head around how that reduces it? Did that work for you?

Here’s what I came up with.

3d printed some tpu washers. Basically prevents metal on metal contact. In the short test run that I just did, it seems to have solved the issue

hypertrucks have the same problem.
The nut should tighten to the shoulder that way it won’t come loose.

rephrasing:

iiuc what venom did,

replacing with the igus flange bushing with a urethane replacement like moon offered probably greatly resisted the wear and overcompression.
