MAD 6495 VS Radium Performance 6485?

Hey guys! What are some of the key difference between 6495 and 6485?

I’m on a 12S setup, so I’m trying to figure out which one would be best for my future DIY.

I love that they have MADESK8 laser printer onto the motor shell. It almost makes me want to spend the extra $$$ just for that.

6495 is bigger than 6485. Larger motors can handles more current and takes longer to heats up. KV also is a big factor, higher KV motors will handle more amps, and vice versa. It’s all depends on your gear ratio and wheel size to figure out what motor size/kv you’ll need.

If you’re on 12s, 6485 is plenty for your use case. Unless you’re planning to push more than like 180A per motor.

the 95s seem to have fragile hall sensors, and will chew through bearings faster due to the longer can. 85s are the way

Also paying extra for lettering.. doesnt make sense to me..

I’d say go 85’s, there seems to be an issue unique to the 95’s where the portion of the can connecting the motor shaft to the bell can crack, I also haven’t personally seen anyone pushing substantially more amps into them compared to the 85’s

Ash was pushing like 230A through his. :joy:

i’ve probably gotten higher than 230a but i lost my ability to quickly check and have thus stopped checking. the 95s were a lot more tolerant with high amps for me, they still got hot but not as quickly. if you’re just cruising, i don’t think 95s are worth the money. they make more sense for racing where you want to push as much amps as possible.

I’ve been pushing my 175kv 95s to 200A and they handle that fine. I confirmed that they do not saturate at this point, didn’t push them even higher though.

Also, the stator length is 20% longer than the 85 roughly, I think the 95s do make sense for racing. I can get the 95s very hot on the rear on my raceboard. The front 85s are also kinda hot from my front biased brakes but definitely not as much the rear 95s.

For cruising though, 75s and 85s are both great, and 95 is overkill.

You’ll know when you maxed out your motor. It will give you an ABS over current fault.

what ESC are you using to push 200A?

pretty sure he was on the d100s. i’m running g300’s to push past 200a but im also on awd. if you’re gonna race, you’ll probably be maxing out the 95’s on 2wd

D100s is great if you want a compact, cheap (ish) and good temperature but it has few hoops you gotta get used to.

VESC DUET is good I think. It came out pretty recently so not a lot of people have done much testing on them yet. Spec wise they look good.

These were all issues addressed in the MAD/Radium version

How did you address the long can wearing out the bearings faster? This issue seems inherent to the design
