Hi, I have tomiboi Odachi V2 and wanted to built 18s14p battery what you think?
BAK N21700CGP 4000mah - 40A
I was not aware of this cell’s existence.
I think if I were looking to make a 14P large range battery for Esk8, I would prefer a 5000mah cell, even if it only had a 10 amp rating, like Eve 50E or Samsung 50E, for the extra 20% of capacity.
Batemo’s ratings are pretty conservative. They rate that BAK cell at 18.7 amps continuous and 29.5 amp peak
Nkon is certainly selling them at an attractive price.
I really like my BAK45D’s performance and longevity so far. basically 2 partial cycles a day since early June last year, and only now am I able to think I can notice any degradation of range or increased sag, but that could just be the cooler weather too.
Looks like it doesn’t fit. The enclosure should be taller than the battery.
i will make thick gasket
Build up the sides with fiberglass and make it taller if you want it to be safe and waterproofable. Using the cells as a structural members, also in a way that makes waterproofing bound to fail, sounds like a bad idea.
I would do 10P using 5Ah cells. 50Ah in that setup vs 56Ah in a 14P 4Ah setup and much less fuckery involved. No need to make a thick gasket, lose ground clearance, etc
If those cells are free hell ya, but if you gotta go through all that trouble to make a thick gasket to make it work and haven’t got cells yet go with a lower grade 5000mah power cell for the lower p count to not have to fuck around with a super gasket. I get 60 hard miles or 100 soft miles from my 50s 18s8p doing between 25wh a mile and 35-40 wh a mile respectively.
My suggestion: If you must make a gasket make two - one from solid neoprene rubber- not the foam kind but the solid almost non compressible kind to make your gap filler and seal it with butyl to the deck - then just a regular gasket on the enclosure. It won’t be as good as extending the enclosure like @b264 suggested but is more accessible to those who can’t work composite for whatever reason.
A 10P of Eve 58E will give you 57 amp hours, and weigh less.
They claim 16.8 amp CDR.
Or wait for the Tenpower/ Molicel M65A that claims it will have a 28 amp CDR
No idea how long you’d have to wait.
Can always add top mount range extender battery too.
I carry a portable charger that can double my range when I want to go further
Weight isn’t a huge concern of mine, but my 16s10p is as heavy as I think I can tolerate. Even with my drag handle I can’t tow the board too far before my arm is dead and shoulder about to fall off.
What are your goals for the build? Will you be pushing the board hard, pushing speeds? or looking for range boat? Lastly are you tied to those cells? Like others said you’ll get more ah for less cells with 4500 or 5000mah cells.
My 16s10p bak 45d 45ah pack I got 45 miles pushing 30-35mph with quite a few stop lights and a small speed run that day. Looking like I can get 75 miles cruising around in the 20 mph range.
I considered filling the whole enclosure and going 18s also. Very interested to see your progress. You should make a build thread so we can follow along!
i decided go 17s and put vesc in enclosure without heat sink, here in summer weather seldom go over 35 celsius, I don’t know I will get heat problem.
Did you wind up using those 4ah BAK cells?
17s x 14p x 3.6v x 4ah= 3427 wH nominal.
16.66 KG/36.65 lbs of cells alone.
