You take the first ratio and multiply it by the second ratio to get your total ratio, same as how changing your wheel size changes the effective ratio.

Here’s a good read on the mechanics: Gear ratios and compound gear ratios

It can’t be a two stage. For it to be a two stage reduction on only two shafts, the motor would have to be driven on same position as the output shaft.

Edit , im dumb. The picture doesnt show the motor shaft.

There’s a compound idler on a middle shaft…

ya i guess i was just expecting something like a bike gear… wasnt sure what i was looking at

I wonder if the idler shaft is supported in double shear or just from the rear. Hopefully its fully supported, if so then these should be damn near bulletproof drives.

Anyone know what mounting pattern they use, and/or if the motor gears are keyway or d shaft?

get some lego technic gears and play around.

If it’s gonna be a production board, good chance it’s gonna be D shaft. But it might change given how companies are starting to incorporate DIY parts.

Can someone that has more experience with gear drive explain if this GD from Tynee is any good.

Video of instalation: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/OZPu0kaYo6A?playlist=OZPu0kaYo6A&autoplay=1&iv_load_policy=3&loop=1&start=

Its an helical gear drive with 3 gears, which are all apparently made from stainless steel. Which is the first thing I find odd, because usually all other GD that I heard of use hardened stell gears or some kind of plastic gears.

Could there be issues. Does anybody have any experience with Tynee gear drives? They look like they are manufactured by linnpower imho. Any advantages or disadvantages of helical GD I should be aware of? Any input is appreciated. thx

note to self/whomever wants to update the wiki .
superbeast drives should be added above.

also should probably break it into two tables. things you can still get and things that are no longer produced.

the former might be an empty table. :frowning:

Didn’t want to mess up the original post but someone might add the Acedeck and new Exway Atlas Pro gear drives

Edit: I see the Exway was mentioned up thread but not added to the list.

Saw this posted on a youtube comment as potential ratios for the Exway:

12 5.9:1 14 5.07:1 16 4.47:1 18 4.01:1 20 3.6:1 22 3.25:1

I’ll add another one to the list. Linnpower now sells Gear drive compatible with Flux Motion AT 2 NOVA (Matrix 3 trucks + Matrix 2 Pro Hubs). Works great. I just printed motor spacers so i didn’t have to cut my motor shaft. Linnpower V4.3 Gear Drive Kit

I like the look of those. Wish you could get them in a ratio around 5.5:1
